So, stuck for ideas for DDs Christmas. She hasn't asked for anything expensive, she would like a reindeer and domino rally.

DH has suggested buying her a tablet. I am unsure..we already have an iPad which she plays on sporadically but I think she would like one of her own if we got her one.

Which one?!
The reviews have confused me. Leappad ultra looked good but some reviews say it's for younger children.

She is 6.5 but thinks she is 13 Grin. Thanks for any advice.

both mine got tablets last year at age 6 and 9 - they have the samsung galaxy tab2 which runs on the android system so you can get lots of games from google play. We got nice sturdy protective covers for them too like this

DS1 is 7yo. We bought a Nexus tablet for him last year. He really likes it, and it's worked quite well for him. We looked at the ones aimed specifically for kids, but felt that he might outgrow them quite quickly, so went with one that could be used as he gets older.

LeapPad's games cost a fortune afterwards. It's better to buy an Android tablet as there are a lot of cheap/free good games.

After lots of research we got DD a Nabi 2 for her 6th birthday. She loves it and I really like the fact that it's clearly for children though does everything a normal tablet does. Means we have somewhere to go when she's 9/10/11 and wants a more 'grown up' tablet.

That link is to an American site but is sold in smyths, Argos, amazon etc. We got ours in Argos for about £130 and it comes with the bumper

Thanks everyone, very useful.

I think that is my problem a bit Whatever. I liked the look of the Nabi - some things I read said the screen was not amazing but I suppose if you are comparing to an iPad or whatever then it would come off worse!

Samsung tab 2 here as well. Boys are 9 and 7 and heavy handed. Lots of free games, kindle app, fabulous.

I have a work iPad and yes the screen is not as sharp as an iPad but it is perfectly good. DD happily watches films, plays lots of games and reads books on it. We have set up the Nabi coins where we can award her coins for good behaviour/tidying/good schoolwork etc and she can use them to 'buy' new games - it's fab Smile

We bought dd3 a cheap and cheerful 7inch tablet from cleverboxes cost less than £50 but does everything my eldests galaxy tab does! A case is a must buy though they smash very easily if dropped!

We also have a Nabi 2 and my daughter enjoys playing with it. I like that there are good parental controls on it. It also looks a bit more like a kids tablet but it has quite a powerful operating system under the bonnet, as it were. The only big downside to it so far is that you cannot get Google Play on it, which makes getting some games a bit of a faff (I gather there is a hack for it,but I have not tried it.) it comes preloaded with a lot of content though so it has not been too much of a problem.
