Making a wreath

I would like to make my own wreath to hang on the front door, does anyone know how? I don't want to spend much. I can get holly or conifer foliage, I have ribbon and pine cones for decoration, but don't know how to start and how to hold it all together. I saw a method using a metal coat hanger bent into shape, but can't find one anywhere!

I live near a small town and can't get to a bigger shopping centre. We have no Hobbycraft nearby.

Have you checked pinterest? I have seen many such diy step by step explanations.

You could buy a ready made wreath and reuse the metal ring next year - I have about three recycled rings and made one last year by weaving the greenery through it. I also made a fabric one with ribbons.

If your not too fussy how it looks you can attach foliage with glittery pipe cleaners and cover up with bows, bundles of cinamon sticks etc. i wove some green battery operated fairy lights through mine last year which looked nice.

You can use climbing plants! Vine is best or use honeysuckle or whatever you can find thats 'viney' - start with one piece and loop into a circle approx the size you want your wreath and then jeep adding more lengths weaving them together as you go. Finish with your pimecones, greenery, ribbon. Florists wire available from most florists if you ask.

Your local florist will probably sell you the ring, they are not expensive. You then need either flat moss (none round here this year :() spruce or conifer, the first two probably also available from your florist, as well as florists wire.
You bind your base plant tightly to the ring, using far more than you would expect to need so you have no bald patches. This also allows for a certain amount of shrinkage over time.
Once this is done you can begin to decorate. Odd numbers work best so clusters of 3 pine cones rather than 2 IYSWIM. Use more florists wire for this then trim off any straggly bits, attach a ribbon and away you go!
It's great fun, ours is on the door bedecked with shotgun cartridges, pheasant feathers and pine cones. It's fair to say it is a little wonkier than a shop bought one but it is very "us", something that would never come from a shop
