The awkward DP - no ideas?

He doesn't:

  • drink
  • wear jewellery of any kind (watches)
  • play computer games
  • play sports (although a little in to his gym & guerrilla/cave training)
  • garden
  • wear aftershave

He sounds utterly boring, he really isn't, but what the hell do I get him for Christmas? I'm ignoring the fact it's his birthday before Xmas

He has one hobby but I've brought all I can for that particular hobby (magazine subscription, experience day at previous Xmas's and birthdays)

Any ideas? links?

tshirts/clothes
nice food hamper?
print of something he likes

Bluestocking · 07/12/2013 11:01

Does he read or listen to music?

Rooble · 07/12/2013 11:11

My DH is similar. I got him Subbuteo to play with DS - will hopefully remind him of his childhood in a nice way. I also got him running gloves as he does run and it may get chilly at some point this winter.
For BIL I got really nice coffee cups from David Mellor as he has a new nespresso machine.
Most years I resort to getting a nice jumper/shirt. Oh, last year I got him a canvas & leather iPad bag for casual work meetings (if that makes sense) as he's definitely not a bag-carrying type of man but does need to carry an iPad around safely.
Theatre or concert tickets for something he'd enjoy maybe? Does he cook? There are some nice cookery days you can do eg via Waitrose cookery school, or Leiths, or there's a nice one at Tideswell (Derbyshire)....
Just some thoughts.....

Thank you everyone this is great, unfortunately I'm still none the wise!

tshirts/clothes - very fussy, likes to purchase his own
nice food hamper - he just eats food, doesn't have particular favourite food; he'd enjoy a lovely steak but equally loves a donner kebab! Grin
print of something he likes - a good idea but my DM brought him something similar last year it's still not framed
Does he read or listen to music? - not really, he likes Swedish House Mafia and has a bit of music on his phone but he's not massively in to it.
Subbuteo - that's an idea, will look in to this (dd is 2 so she'd play with him) Grin
coffee cups - he doesn't drink coffee, hates it.
canvas & leather iPad bag he was brought a lovely leather bag when he left his last job as a leaving present. He's used it a handful of time in 12 months Angry
Theatre or concert tickets - I had this idea to take him to see Brian Cox and his DS/BIL are buying this for him for his birthday instead.

Is a beard trimmer a crap present?
I've just spoken to him and he said I've got you and DD, I don't want anything that's not helpful! Grin

Well how about getting Dd to paint something (if you use poster paint on strongly coloured paper even a 2yo can produce something amazing looking), you frame it in a plain but striking frame (can get these from ikea) and give that to him? You will only get one chance to have her worldview aged 2, and he can keep it forever?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/12/2013 11:46

Re food - if there's 'normal' stuff he likes, you could buy him a 'nice' version of it. Eg dp likes mustard and usually just has Sainsbo's own, so last year I got him a couple of 'nice' jars from Waitrose. Ditto pork pie - I got him a 'posh' one in Selfridges and it went down a storm.

Dp always likes to get shower gel too - he'd normally just have Radox or whatever, so I get him Ted Baker etc for Christmas.

ZombieBelle · 07/12/2013 11:50

how about some gardening stuff so he and dd can plant some flowers in the spring/make a vegetable garden

yearly pass to somewhere for the whole family (national trust etc)

Box set of a tv show (Game of Thrones, breaking bad, Luther?)

HarderToKidnap · 07/12/2013 11:50

Tickets for a comedian.
Cufflinks
Tickets to the rugby or a big football game
A proper wet shave somewhere
Massage
Weekend away?

Dosey · 07/12/2013 12:02

How about homemade vouchers he can redeem at his will, like breakfast in bed, a romantic evening for two ie a romantic evening meal once dd is in bed, a massage, a foot rub or any think else that would take his fancy Xmas Wink

FrozenDough · 07/12/2013 12:52

If he uses proteins and supplements when he's training I've put a link to a good site on page 8 of the Christmas bargain thread 27

FadBook · 07/12/2013 17:46

frozendough you are amazing, what a great idea! I hadn't thought of anything like this and he is really in to it all at the minute and keeps trying to get me to drink the protein shakes I've just spent about £22 and got loads because I got the free item too using the referal code you mentioned.

Dosey - I think I may be doing vouchers like that for his birthday Wink he hates his birthday so I've arranged for dd to stop over at my DM's and we'll got out for a curry.... probably plan to do a nice breakfast for him on the morning too

Look at the Tate shop and notonthehighstreet. I found a few things for my impossible dh on there.

FrozenDough · 07/12/2013 19:25

Glad I could help FadBook my dh is obsessed with stuff like that so he'll be one happy man come Xmas day!

FadBook · 08/12/2013 07:30

It's great. I've just added a Men's Fitness subscription and it was only £5 for 5 issues with a sign up to a direct debit (which you can cancel). Comes with a little print out gift card which is good too.
