Present ideas for 90 year old Granny, anyone?

My dear old Granny is 90 a few days after Christmas and I'm struggling to think of anything good to get her for Christmas Sad For her birthday we are doing her a big photo book of all her family so that's sorted but I'm stuck now. She lives alone, and is not very mobile. In the last few weeks she's gone down hill massively and really struggles to move around or get out of the house so anything that involves moving about is going to be difficult for her - had thought of a nice afternoon tea but that's impossible for her now Sad

She's still very sharp mentally so likes to read etc but books just seem a bit boring - I love her dearly and am aware that there won't be many Christmasses left so I just want to get her something really special but I don't know what. And it can't be too expensive because she'll get upset if we spend 'too much' on her and she'll worry about it!

Any thoughts? Could really do with some inspiration.

My mum - not 90, but very frail- loves her slanket, and the Lakeland one looks lovely. If you wanted to spend more, the heated throw sounds fab

Does she like music? My dad loves to watch music DVDs, and will be getting another Andre Rieu, which he particularly likes as you get to see different cities in the talking bits

A slanket is a good idea. She is always cold now. I think she would worry about a heated throw causing a fire though, she's become very anxious lately. That Lakeland one looks so snuggly!

...I see that you are doing a book with photos - but what about a digital photo frame full of photos and stuff from when she was young.... to bring back some good memories

What about "Talking Books" or something similar rather than paperbacks ....

Has she got a good table that she can use when she is sitting down - how about getting a special photograph made into a jigsaw puzzle..

A decent radio with big buttons that is easy to select and listen to a channel...

A decent telephone with big buttons that is easy to call family and friends..

A voucher to get her a weekly mobile Hairdresser appointment - coming to the house (perhaps)

A manicure and hand massage - again coming to house

..running out of ideas now..

Good Luck..

We replaced some of my granny's jewellery with pieces that don't have small clasps to do as she was struggling with them. Elasticated pearl bracelets and beads that could go over her head were popular.

I got my dh's dgg a hamper of nice food that I put into a nice basket. Nothing too expensive just nice tasty food and tasty treats that she enjoyed. I wrapped it up inside the basket and stuck cellophane and a bow on it and then she used the basket for bits and pieces. Or a nice lap quilt if you know any crafty people. Lap quilts are lovely and cosy and can be embroidered with personal messages from each family member. Xmas Smile

Second the Slanket (I have one Grin) and also audio books on CD and a cheap CD player if she doesn't have one already.
What about some really lovely, scented hand cream? Lavender maybe?

As for the afternoon tea, what about buying up some goodies from Waitrose and taking it to her - I think they even do ready-made afternoon teas with sandwiches, cakes etc that you'd just collect.

Marking place as i have a 90yr old to buy for and have zero ideas!

A dvd box set might ne a good shout but ive no idea which one would be suitable

Can you still get bedjackets? I remember that my gran liked to have something nice to wear even if she couldn't get out of bed, so she felt "dressed" for visitors.

My Gran loved the bird table and bird feeders that we got for her one year. She got lots of enjoyment watching the birds from the comfort of her room (she was in a nursing home at the time).
