Bookes for a 5 year old girl

Can anyone recommend good books for a very imaginative 5 year old? She has all the Julia Donaldson ones, usual fairy tales treasuries, she is starting to like slightly more complex stories, are there any good chapter books anyone can recommend?

I read the Twits to her and she loved it! I have also bought her the Velveteen Rabbit and a very beautifully illustrated Nutcracker book for Christmas.

Thanks

Mr gum books were a hit with my dd.

I have bought dd a collection of stories by Rumer Godden for Christmas, I think it is called something like The Fairy Doll and other tales from the dolls house.

I read her my old copy of Holly and Ivy last Christmas by RG, and she loved it, all about toys in the toy shop coming to life and a little girl who is lost at Christmas time.

I got the entire Roald Dahl collection for my DD for Xmas for £10 on book people recently.

DD has also enjoyed Harry Potter, and a series of books that are in book people and WHSmith that are about fairies. Saskia the singing fairy; Donna the dance fairy. That sort of thing!

DS is nearly 6 and he likes The Enormous Turnip, Peter Pan, Mrs pepperpot stories, Winnie The Witch stories, Horrid Henry stories, anything by Peter Bentley (cats ahoy is fabulous), A Cat Called Scratch (the illustrator is Korky Paul, who illustrates the Winnie the Witch books), Sir Scallywag and the Golden Underpants ...

Do you need more suggestions? I can keep thinking if you want, and look on his shelf when he wakes tomorrow.

Thanks for the fabulous suggestions! I have ordered a Roald Dahl treasury, a Mr Gum book to try, the RG Tales from the Dolls House book and Ottoline and the Yellow Cat. I actually still have my old Faraway Tree books, so will see if she wants to read those with me too. Smile

Also 'my naughty little sister' bit old fashioned but the chapters are really short and the stories are very accessible for that age group - ie things they can relate to - seeing a fancy dress parade, buying a new dress etc

My daughter (5) is obsessed with the Rainbow Magic fairies, as mentioned by Rioja.
They start with Ruby the Red Fairy, go through the colours of the rainbow, then go on to the Weather fairies; there are animals fairies, sports fairies, party fairies, they go on and on, which is good and bad!
You may well find one with your daughter's name, there are about 150 in the series, at the moment!
DD likes to have them read to her, but she is capable of reading them too, which I like :)

Winnie the witch, the enormous crocodile, we have got dd whose 5 the pop up edition of Charlie and the chocolate factory- looks amazing!

Personally I enjoy the works of Caroline Duffy, her feminism speaks volumes and its always good to indoctrinate them from an early age.

Thanks mercy
