A present for DH

I don't know what to get DH at all.

He has had a hard few months - nothing major - just a bit run down etc. He runs his own business and money has been tight so he hasn't treated himself to anything in a long time.

His hobbies are cycling and photography. He likes design, science and science fiction. But other than a new bike or camera which I can't afford I really don't understand enough about what specialised equipment he needs to buy a surprise gift. He has been involved in these hobbies for over 20 years so has all the basic gear.

Last year I bought him a Kindle. Which was a huge hit. I'd like something about £150 but could stretch a bit for the perfect present.

He has enough clothes.

Any ideas gratefully received.

I could have written your post LadyM so I'm watching with interest. Ideally I'd like to take him away for a weekend but I don't think we can stretch to it.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 04/12/2013 08:55

We can't stretch to a weekend away either.

Since our DHs seem to have similar interests maybe we should send them together!

Let's hope we get some inspiration.

where are you - roughly- op? i ask because another poster on another thread mentioned a trip up the Shard in London - i'm stealing the idea for my dp, he'd love it.

ps. "up the shard" is NOT a euphemism for up the oxo tower, by the way Grin

If he likes photography, does he have some good photo editing software? Not the cheap stuff, but a package like Photoshop or Lightroom that he might not want to justify the cost of himself, but would love as a present.

Cycling can be an expensive hobby too, and there is lots of specialised cyclone clothing and gadgets (powerful lights, GPS, etc) that might be worth a try.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 04/12/2013 09:22

We are in the south west so London would be more than a day trip I'm afraid.

He has good lights and GPS. I'll look into the cycle clothing idea. I've seen some of his and it looks a bit threadbare now I think of it.

He is a graphic designer so has all the software.

I'm not into design at all - if anyone who is can point me in the direction of recent publications that he might like a nice book could be a good present.

Thanks for helping.

Trashcan, is Lightroom different from photoshop which I know he has? Thanks.

iPad mini? Or is that too similar to kindle (and too expensive)? I managed to get one for £210 with various codes/ deals through quidco.

Look up aftershokz headphones. If he hasn't go these, I bet he would love a set. They sit on the bone in front of the ear and work by induction rather than through the ear drum, so the cyclist can hear what's going on around him whilst listening to music.

We're stocking them in our sports shops from this week, and had our training this week. We were all very impressed with the quality and I think cyclists are going to be falling over each other to get them.

There is a wireless option too, which is £99.99, I think.

DH is a cyclist. He has asked for this flask that fits on his mountain bike but can take hot drinks too.

HolgerDanske · 04/12/2013 10:26

Argh haha I thought once you ticked the automatic conversion option it would do it every time. Guess not!

Does he have stuff like a turbo trainer or rollers so that he can train indoors when the weather's crap/at night when it's dark? Good quality cycle shorts can be really expensive, so he might appreciate those.

Or are there any day courses on photography wildlife/children/night views that he might be interested in?
