Doll for 18mo DD

SESthebrave · 03/12/2013 21:06

4yo DS has decided he wants to get 18mo DD to go with her toy buggy that a friend has passed on to her. Lovely idea but I really struggle with dolls. I don't like anything too stereotypical or pink. Don't know if that makes sense or is fair on DD when it's for her, not me!
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Sorry that should have said that he wants to get her a doll to go with the buggy (obviously!)

Hi my DD is 16 months and I'm getting her baby stella. Have a look on amazon, I can't link from my phone Smile

She's 18 months old. She just needs something sort of baby shaped. I would go to your nearest big toy shop and buy something plastic in pink. Time enough for really nice dolls when she's a bit older.

NorthernLebkuchen · 03/12/2013 21:53

If you desperately don't want pink then you can get 'boy' dolls in - guess what? BLue here

Personally I would get pink and call him Anthony anyway Grin

Try Petalina online doll shop? Great customer service and search by age of child

My DD aged 22 months absolutely adores her baby Stella. Can't recommend it highly enough. All the accessories are good too (if a bit pricey). In fact we have a spare as she now has to take her everywhere in her baby carrier.

Another vote for the petalina website. Particularly recommend the corolle tidoo doll. Can choose a brightly clothed one, or a boy clothed one. They are soft bodied but can go in the bath. They are the right size for an 18 month old, and a nice weight. My DS was given one at the age and he adored it. Ds2 played with it next and now tiny dd 10 months old is thrilled when she lays her hands on it!

What about somethibg cheap and cheerful like this?

SESthebrave · 03/12/2013 22:22

NorthernLebkuchen - I like your style. Pink and Anthony it is Grin

Mortified - I actually almost like that Asda one!

Another vote for Stella. DD had one as her first doll although turned out not to be that much into dolls. But when DS came along he claimed her for his own and absolutely adores her.

callmekitten · 03/12/2013 22:41

I was going to recommend the Corolle doll mentioned above or the Corolle Calin dolls (the Calin dolls can't go in the bath though). They are a little more expensive than other dolls but well worth the price. As Tiredteddy said, they are sized and weighted for an 18 month old. Also, they smell like vanilla (not obnoxiously though) My DD got her first Corolle doll at that age and loved it like crazy.

CeeeeHo · 03/12/2013 23:35

Another vote for Corolle doll. My DD got a calin doll for her first birthday and adores her. Nice size and weight for an 18mo. An advantage being soft bodied so can be easily plonked into a sitting (slumped!) position and of course cuddled. Did come in a pink outfit, but DD tends to insist that poor 'Baba' does not wear clothes, so doesn't really matter!

ZingSweetPea · 04/12/2013 00:00

we bought a doll from John Lewis for £6.00

DD is almost 20 months

DisneyAddict88 · 04/12/2013 10:51

we've got various dolls and most of them end up naked so doesnt matter if they came in pink clothes!

my friend bought dd 18 months a beautiful rag doll which she loves its a powell craft one I think from amazon (cant link sorry!)

SESthebrave · 26/12/2013 09:10

Just wanted to say thank you for your help - we got her the Corolle Calin doll and she loves it :)
