What happens if you reserve something in Argos at half price and...

they tell you that it's in stock in your local store, but won't be available to collect for three days? Will it go back to full price? I don't want it at £70, but will want it at £34.99! Seems a con that it's 'in stock' in all 3 of my local stores, but will take between 3-6 days to be available to collect!

My DP works for Argos head office & says policy is that they will sell it to you at the price you reserved it at.

They honoured the 3 for 2 on toys deal for me in similar circumstances recently.

fedup21 · 03/12/2013 20:59

Oh, that is brilliant news! Thank you so much Mr-Mrsmindcontrol. I've always loved Argos and now I love them even more!

They did this to me last week Hmm I sent dd with copies of email reservation and she argued the toss (it's her own particular talent Wink) and came home with it half price. However there is a disclaimer on the emails that says the price you reserve at isn't the price you might pay,it's the price in store on the day that will be charged. Like you I think it's a con, Argos drawing you in on the strength of an offer that doesn't really exist.

IamInvisible · 03/12/2013 21:12

This is from their website

a) For products reserved online for store pick up or any other reservation service the price you pay is the price in store on the day of collection. Please note that this does not include FastTrack orders where the price you pay is the price specified at the point of placing an order and not the price on collection of your products from the store.

There was a lady in our local store arguing the toss last week. They refused to back down so she left.

If it was me, I'd probably pay to have it delivered to my house just incase, if I could.

Mrsmindcontrol · 03/12/2013 21:19

DP says that emphatically the unwritten rule is that they will honour the price on the day the item is reserved. If the store manager refuses to honour it then speak to customer services & they will sort for you.
DP is fairly senior so I'd trust his word on that.

I've had a situation with Argos today! I reserved Monster High School on Argos app last night at 69.99, it was coming up on their systems as 89.99 when I went to collect, they rang head office who said there was no record of it ever bring at 69.99! I showed them my reservation on my phone which clearly stated 69.99 Customer Services said it was at the managers discretion if they sold it to me at that price or not! I made a bit of a fuss and got it at the reservation price but it wasn't particularly straightforward! They concluded that it was probably that price earlier in year and app hadn't been updated?!?!

insanityscatching · 03/12/2013 21:44

There doesn't seem to be much point in reserving items at a price you are happy to pay if when you get there the price isn't the one that you reserved at. It's quite a journey to Argos around here so it has definitely put me off using Argos particularly because I'm not one who likes to make a scene and so would inevitably have a wasted journey.
It seems particularly odd to me that the half price items that are supposedly in stock on the day of reservation can't be collected for three or four days when coincidentally the items have gone back to full price Hmm
Maybe Argos would have a rethink if they knew they were losing sales as a result?

That's what I was worried about! Fingers crossed I won't have to make a fuss. I will report back ;)

I get what you're saying Mrsmind, but the store manager at our local store was going by the written rule that is on the website probably in the catalogue and on the email you print out. The lady he was refusing to back down on was quite old, so just took his word for it.

Maybe instead of having an 'unwritten rule' that not all stores will honour, they should change it to a written one?

Mrsmindcontrol · 03/12/2013 21:57

DP says the written rule is to cover themselves should there ever be an exceptional reason they need to not honour a deal. But, and he spent 15 years working as a store manager before being promoted to head office, he says it should never be used ordinarily.

Glitterkitten24 · 03/12/2013 22:04

They will honour the price that the goods are reserved at, that's been the case for a while now so there shouldn't be any hassles with this being honoured in stores.

If you do have any issues and are on twitter, I can recommend the Argos Helpers (customer services) who are brilliant at resolving issues in my experience! Stores can be rebriefed on the procedure if this is being highlighted by customers as being a recurring problem.

insanityscatching · 03/12/2013 22:06

But how many of the stores know the unwritten rule Mrsmind? Not our local one anyway as they were adamant that it was the price on the day and why if an item is in stock when you reserve it can you not collect it until three or four days later when the price is back to full price? Bit fishy don't you think?

Glitterkitten24 · 03/12/2013 22:10

We usually get huge increases in stock for promotions, but when it sells out, it can take a few days for it to be replenished through deliveries etc, thus why 2-3 days delivery to store.

But ALL stores know that reservations should be honoured at reservation price - as per my above post, please tell customer services if this isn't happening.

Mrsmindcontrol · 03/12/2013 22:11

I agree it sounds fishy insanity & I can only go by what DP says but sounds like the manager of the store you were in needs some training.

But Glitter on that particular order I reserved three items at full price and two at half price on a Saturday evening. The three at full price I could pick up Sunday but the two at half price were to be picked up Thursday and yet all showed as being in stock at that store.

snozzlemaid · 03/12/2013 22:17

I reserved something a while ago and the price had increased before I collected it. I said I was expecting it to cost less and cashier checked my reservation and let me have it at cheaper price.
I did think you had to pay in store price on the day but thought I'd give it a go and it worked for me.

insanityscatching · 03/12/2013 22:17

So that's my store, Maryz's store and Iam's store seemingly oblivious to the unwritten rule. I wonder how many more stores don't know it either?

lade · 03/12/2013 22:24

Two stores I use, don't always apply the rule either!

One even told me that it depended on what manager was in that day!

I ordered a washing line this summer. It took 3 days for the line to get delivered to the store. I went to collect as soon as it arrived. The price had gone up. I showed them my reservation, and the assistant also pointed out to me that the price is not guaranteed, but it was at the manager's discretion. She had two managers on that day, and went to get the one that usually said yes! Previously, they have not honoured the price, so I have not bought.

The other store refused to honour the price.

If it is an unwritten rule, It certainly seems to be one that the staff don't know about Grin.

insanityscatching · 03/12/2013 22:33

To be honest I don't bother with Argos if I can help it anyway, customer service seems secondary to chat about the staff's social life or love life on the shop floor and I assume it's replicated in the warehouse because it takes an age when the shop is empty. In the pre Christmas build up it will be horrendous and knowing then that you will have to have a stand up row and might leave without what you would have had to wait 40 minutes for just strengthens the resolve to shop elsewhere tbh.
