despite DS (4) saying he doesn't want a tablet for Christmas I am determined to get him one as I feel he would love it once he has it.

Anyway I've spent ages looking at the various tablets available and I think I have narrowed it down to the Leap pad 3 Power (which comes with rechargeable batteries) and the innotab 3 (which I believe is rechargeable also) It's between these two really as I'm on a tight budget and have managed to find both of these on offer for under £50.

We are not a very tech savvy family and at present do not own a family computer or have Wifi so I need a tablet that DS can play with from the get go with the chance to add things when we do eventually get Internet again.

So has anyone bought either of these for their dc? If so how many apps/ games did it come with and would there be enough to play with untill I cam download more stuff?and are there good additional games you can purchase! It would DS's first computer so even if it's basic he should be happy.

I'm flapping because I fear they could sell out today so any responses very much appreciated, thanks Grin

We bought LeapPads last year. Recharge batteries are a must as they don't last long otherwise. Ours came with 5 free 'games' (although I think one was a song and one a cartoon). Without a computer you will have to buy games cartridges which are flippin' expensive and a bit of a gamble as you don't really know if they're going to like them or not. If you can connect to a computer there is more choice but the cheapest game last time I was on their website was about £6.99. Sadly this has meant my kids got a bit bored of the games they have and prefer our tablet which we download free apps to.

Sorry that's not really answered your question Hmm

We've gone for innotab 3s. we have a very battered 1 that dd2 has now taken over from dd1 & it gets hours of use. No idea about the Leappad though, it was four ish years ago we looked at them both and decided innotab.

Meant to say, over the years we've had the innotab 1, we've only bought two cartridges...the oldest likes the e-reader and calendar on it, youngest likes the art studio and the built in games.

Think the 3s comes with a book, couple of inbuilt games and then the art studio/camera & some sort of editing software on that so will keep my youngest occupied with that and just download something else like a book or game every now and again

DD has Leappad 2, loves it. Didn't really feel the need for new apps/games for a couple of months as she really enjoyed the camera and video recorder plus the (very few) games/apps that were already on it - art studio, cartoon maker etc.

Game cartridges are pricey although you can sell them on if they are well looked after plus you can also buy them secondhand. But you do need a computer to buy and dowload the cheaper apps.

And I did need a PC to set it up for first use although I was downloading some free apps using codes I found on MN so actually it may be that you don't need a PC to start with. Sorry, that's not at all helpful!

Also DDs friend has Innotab. They like to swap sometimes and DD ultimately prefers the Leappad but they are much of a muchness as far as I can tell.

We bought a Leappad 2 for DD when she turned 6. She didn't use it much, I guess she outgrew it, but it was adopted and has been well used by DS2 from when he was 3. e still likes to use other more 'grown up' gadgets as well, such as playing Where's My Water on phone or tablet! But that's because he copies his elder brother and sister. If he didn't know about these, sure he'd be happy with the Leappad. It's a tricky one. The games are expensive.
