Must surely exist, so why can't I find one?

Something chunky and robust with big, simple buttons

Is anyone able to find me one?

WHY on Earth does a 'small' child need such a thing??

Can't they manage with 'old fashioned' Radio or CD player??

No wonder teachers and TAs have such disinterested children in school!

Soldierskittle · 02/12/2013 22:51

There aren't many radio stations suitable for a toddler. We don't have a CD player nor any CDs and its 2013 and any stories or music she wishes to listen to are most easily and cheaply acquired digitally

And seriously, wtf???

wtf indeed!
How judgemental. They are such a convenience. Have you thought of buying an iPod shuffle? One prob with them is that they're easily lost.

Wolfiefan · 02/12/2013 23:12

I'd worry a small child would damage their hearing with headphones.

Amazon have something that might fit the bill. Type in mp3 with speakers and it's the one that's about £5 or £6 in a few different colours. Has a torch built in too.

MichaelFinnigan · 03/12/2013 18:15

LK, I've found and ordered it! I think it'll be perfect thank you :)

We don't use headphones for that very reason. I bought done cheap, portable speakers that sort of expand and change colour from Tesco. Sainsburys do mini portable ones in the shape of a rabbit, etc. too !

Ferguson, why on earth should listening to music through an MP3 player make a child any more disinterested at school than listening to a radio, CD player, tape deck or indeed old-fashioned vinyl? Technology changes, but it's still music. I used to listen to Flanders and Swann on vinyl, my children listened to the same thing via an iPod.

And is there really such a thing as a small-child-friendly radio station these days? Listen With Mother ceased to exist several decades ago.

GoodnessKnows · 03/12/2013 22:34

Actually, www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/grownups/radio

We love music and (most) LBC discussions, here!

I haven't sussed the MP3 player bit yet, but I have recently discovered Fun Kids Radio. It's great. Kid-friendly pop music before and after school, nursery rhymes and stories during school hours and even some quieter instrumental stuff after lunch. And I don't have to keep messing around with podcasts like CBeebies radio.

MichaelFinnigan please could you link to the one you bought?

MichaelFinnigan · 04/12/2013 18:14

It's this one

snappybadger · 04/12/2013 19:57

Brilliant - thank you!
