How do you plug outdoor Christmas lights in?

We had an integrated garage at our old house so it was easy but I just can't work out how or where to plug them in at our new one! Any ideas? How does everyone else do it?

We plug ours in in the garage, which is joined to the house.

Can you run an extension lead from somewhere if you don't have a handy garage?

In the outdoor sockets.

I plug them in a socket in the front room and then put the cord through the window (is the sort that can be opened and I close it once they're through).

Like Miranda through a window through to front room.
We use a timer so we don't need to remember to turn them on and off.

I didn't realise you could do the through the window thing - I assumed it would squash the cable. Might have a look!

We're getting the house rewired in the new year so will look at outside sockets. Any more ideas appreciated - thanks!

Trough the corner of DDs wooden window frame, out the borders up window of the pantry (long story) and various outdoor sockets on sheds.

Fortunately DH wired the garden before the present nanny state, pay someone with far less idea than you have, but has a bit of paper laws came in.

Also Google dribox. They allow you safely (with a RCD to be certain) to put 4 way boards and extension joints outside. Therefore, you can have several sets of lights for only sneaking out one cable.

Ours have a thin cable so you can put it through the window and close/lock it without crushing the cable.
