Help! can anyone help me with what to buy for the fabulous nurses and care assistants who look after my very sick mum so well in her nursing home.

I have in the past bought boxes of chocolates / biscuits but I don't want to this year as they get so many and some of the staff have mentioned that the cleaners eat most of them! Also it's so hot in there that everything melts....
I think there are approx 20 staff altogether I can get a list of names etc and buy individual presents although for so many it wouldn't be much....any ideas?
Or I could get a large package to leave in the staff room for everyone to take one....of what? Bath salts? Soap? And would the cleaners take it all....maybe I would be better with the individual presents.

The staff are mostly female but a few men and a real mixture of races and religions. They deserve champagne and diamonds but sadly my budget doesn't run to that Sad
I would be really grateful for any ideas at all. If you work in a similar place what kind of gifts would you like to receive?
Thank you Smile

Oh that's difficult...Could you make a contribution to their Christmas party/meal?

Nice hand creams. They'd be washing their hands a gazillion times a day. Their hands would be red raw by the end of the day (speaking as a nurse with the wrinkliest hands in the world).

How lovely and kind of you Thanks

What's your budget? Could you club together with other families and get a therapist in to give massages & treatments etc during their break times?

My work place does this every xmas and it gets booked up v quickly. We get to choose 15 min hand, face or head massage & it's better than any choc or wine!

I work in a hospital ward and we get alot of tins of biscuits and sweers and to be honest I really appreciate getting them. We open a tin and can all share it or we save some up and everyone gets a tin each. There's is so many staff in a nursing home it would be impossible to buy something for everyone but maybe you could get a nice batch of cupcakes or different traybakes or a nice cake with thank you on it. That would go down well in our ward and can be left in staff room for us all to share.

A nice christmas card with a message will show them how much you appreciate them.

I absolutely second what hippo says.

A tin of sweets to share is more than welcome. They will not expect more than this.

We love getting tins of celebrations/ biscuits etc and we have a little tombola/raffle so that everyone gets one.

What about making a sort of break time hamper with hot chocolate nice coffee and posh tea etc with some nice new mugs

I work in a similar job (adults with disabilities) and my favorite gift is nice hand lotion. The constant hand washing is hell on your hands and the lotion provided the company is o.k. but not the greatest. Some nice sized bottles or tubes that can be shared maybe?

How about an annual magazine subscription?

happyis · 30/11/2013 21:05

what about "lunch"? buy some lovely french bread, cheese, cold meats, dips and crisps.

It wouldn't cost heaps and there would be plenty to go around.

Sorry to come back to this so late and thank you for all your thoughtful responses.

The manager of the home actually mentioned the other day how much the staff look forward to the tins of chocolates and biscuits at xmas!

So my life made easy and I thought they would be sick of them!
