Small gifts for 8 yr-old dd

Any ideas for small surprise gifts for dd? She's quite young in many ways - doesn't listen to pop music for example. Quite girly Hmm. We don't have family getting stuff for her so I want a fair number of small, inexpensive things to open. She has plenty reading books but unusual or novelty books could be good. She has a ton of make up and jewelry that hardly gets used. Enough electrical stuff for now - but maybe a game for her lap top?

Her main gift is a sewing machine (which is cheating a bit as I will probably be using it!) and she has only asked for Twister.

Hi,

My 7year old dd absolutely loves the little momiji message dolls. They are basically little japanese dolls with a slot on the underneath with a blank piece of folded paper in which you write a message on. They vary from about £10-15 but lovely little keepsake items that aren't junk and don't take up much space. She also likes the Harajuku little perfume bottles once again around £10. I only get the tiny bottles (about 15ml I think the actual perfume is) but they have a figure standing on top and they do Gwen Stefani style ones too!
She also still likes the mini lalaloopsy figures and they have Wizard of Oz ones just out now too that are sweet, um other little things are gel pens, fancy pencils with things on the top (fluffy birds, butterflies etc) Uno or top trump cards maybe?

HTH

x

Maybe some Top Model stuff (colouring / design books) like this one.

Acinonyx · 27/11/2013 11:18

That's great thanks - all things I have never seen before. More please!

Top Model do a range of skin coloured pencils covering a good broad spectrum of skin tones. Brilliant. Have got them for mine.

snowmanshoes · 27/11/2013 12:26

Forgot to say the 'Zelfs' seem to be really popular with her and her friends as do VIP pets.

ThePigOfHappiness · 27/11/2013 12:51

My dd is 8 and sounds similar to yours, I am thinking of a small CD player with some audio books. When she inevitably gets into music she will already have the player.
She loves the top model books by the way, they were what she got for her birthday and she saves pocket money to spend on new ones Smile

lovesmileandlaugh · 27/11/2013 12:54

Mine have just discovered a love of Hama beads. For stockings, I've also got a polly pocket, a new purse with a £10 gift voucher in it, bath shimmer.

Whyamihere · 27/11/2013 13:22

My dd's 9 but quite young as well, she wanted a rainbow loom, apparently you make bracelets from elastic bands (!!), sounds wierd but dd was very enthusiastic for it. I've also bought her a little toy weaving loom which I think she'll like.

Noggie · 27/11/2013 13:26

How about those 'eggs' that you add water to and whatever is inside eg Penguin grows- can get them on amazon for a few pounds x

Acinonyx · 27/11/2013 13:33

I'd forgotten about Polly Pocket. She does like those eggs. A loom sounds good just not sure if it's textile overkill with all the sewing stuff already.

We have dozens of audio books!

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 27/11/2013 13:36

thanks for the rainbow loom ki, dd will love that, just added to my amazon basket.

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 27/11/2013 13:39

dd's favourite thing from her birthday is a £2 pack of gel pens from asda!

MrsCakesPremonition · 27/11/2013 13:39

I spotted some Twistios in Tesco today. They were £5 a pack (not sure if it was a smaller box than the one on Amazon.

I think my DD would love them.

Acinonyx · 27/11/2013 14:06

Cath Kidson very popular here too. I think dd would love Twistios too! Also bookmarked hat-scarf thing.

Got gel pens last Xmas (very cheap) and were a big hit. May get more.

Acinonyx · 27/11/2013 14:08

Hmm - Amazon Twistios reviews somewhat poor. Great idea though. Maybe look at Tescos.

Pig- may I ask where you're getting a cd player? I want to replace my 8yo's broken one this christmas!

I've got moshis to fall back on, thankfully.
Also art materials always go down well, hair clips, cute socks, she had a lava lamp last year which she loves.

WhereMyMilk · 27/11/2013 14:36

As she's having a sewing maching how about a sewing basket then lots of things to go in it wrapped individually? Buttons, ribbons, felt, scissors, pins, glue gun etc?

Acinonyx · 27/11/2013 14:41

Ah, I got the sewing basket last Xmas.

Those hat-scarves are already sold out Shock

I'd love a lava lamp myself, can't think why dh has never bought me one....Hmm

I got dd's in store so they do still have them if you can get to a store. If not most places do a version of it.

Dd had a CD player for her birthday it was £20 or £30 from Argos. She chose a pink one. It's quite good considering the price.

Dontletthemgetyoudown · 27/11/2013 20:00

This one still in stock www.next.co.uk/g49470s3#853990g49

Acinonyx · 27/11/2013 21:34

Well done Dontlethemgetyoudown - have ordered (although slightly bamboozled by order process - should be OK).

We seem to replace CD players yearly.

Hope your dd likes it. After two boys I'm finding the dd's especially the 7.8 year old really easy to buy for. Lots of little gifts out there that she will love. Even primark has jewellery and hair things for £1 packs of three animal shaped lip balms for £3 (I got owl shaped ones), fox shaped ceramic trinket box in new look for £4 and those purses with the metal clasp they had fox, owl and panda ones for £4.

I've had to stop or her pile will be ten times the size of the other threes.

Acinonyx · 27/11/2013 21:56

I think I've got so much of this stuff for her already that's the problem!
