Done the DC. Utterly stuck on other family. Can we have a What-are -you-getting-everyone-else-thread please?

expatinscotland · 27/11/2013 08:58

Nothing. We only buy for kids.

whyno · 27/11/2013 11:13

Posh / novelty chocolates, board games, mugs, scarves, oven glove, bubble bath. Very uninspiring now I think of it. Grin

BunnyLebowski · 27/11/2013 11:17

Nothing. We only buy for each other and DD.

Which is bliss when you read the threads on here Grin .

Indoor plant for BF and her DP (just moved); another one for BIL; magazine subscription for MIL; book for FIL; hand blender for DB (that's what he wanted); so far a CD for DH. Also have two birthdays coming up for adults and am getting BF a refillable leather notebook and BIL laminated maps for walks.

Ragwort · 27/11/2013 14:14

I buy a charity gift for my DPs (their choice) and a small hamper of food/drink bits that I put together. Have agreed with all other adults in family not to exchange gifts (no ILs Sad).

dashoflime · 28/11/2013 08:02

Am quite surprised to see how many people don't buy presents for adults.
Do you buy presents for each others kids or just your own?
Do you give money to your kids to pick out a present for Mum/Dad?

This is our first Christmas as a family so we're really just starting to make our own traditions. In my house growing up, we all sat in a circle and opened presents in turns. Mum and Dad as well.

I think it was good for us to see that adults deserve consideration and gifts as well. I'm not sure I like the message given out by children opening a lot of presents by themselves and the adults not getting anything.

I agree with Dash that I think it is important for children to see that adults also get gifts - although I personally buy very few gifts (as said earlier) - we do encourage our DS to buy presents for DH and I and usually have a few 'token' gifts for adults under the tree during the 'present ceremony' - we open in turns as well. Smile

Dh-clothes
Big sis-jeans, calendar, diary, other small stuff
Bro in law-some variety of smelly stuff or a shirt
Dad-not a fecking clue!

(That's all the adults we have to buy for as inlaws are deceased and dh an only child)

QueenFuri · 28/11/2013 17:15

bro: Headphones for his xbox, smellies, chocs
SILK: Silver linings playbook dvd, smellies , chocs

DH is getting beer, some shaving stuff and in earphones.

Aunty is getting one of the Lola rose umbrellas bought from a bargain thread ages ago.

Cousin is getting the elemis milk bath which came free with a magazine subscription from here.

neontetra · 28/11/2013 19:15

Extended family-wise, I've got one cousin some jam, a nice floral tea-towel, a kath kidston hand care kit and a framed photo of dd (she is like a second dm to me). Another cousin and his wife are getting a nice bottle of red. Dh's aunt is getting the Sainsburys pheasant print scarf. For dh's cousin we just buy for their ds.

Doinmummy · 28/11/2013 19:17

My parents are getting a posh photo of me and DD. Sis and BIL tickets for a comedian at their local theatre.

BF is getting a bath mat and soup dishes( he only EVER wants practical stuff!

SpookedMackerel · 28/11/2013 19:32

Books, CDs and DVDs for all dh's family, bought them all already.

Have not been inspired by anything for a single member of my family yet.

I agree it is good for children to see adults exchanging presents, even if they're just token ones.

Milliways · 28/11/2013 21:02

We buy for nieces/nephews until 21 and our children & parents. That is all and it is brilliant as whole family does this.

Only spend about £20 on parents, so smallish stuff.
ITune vouchers are 20% off in John Lewis at the moment which are great for the Teens.

LovelyWeatherForDucks · 29/11/2013 13:20
