When do you put the presents under the tree?

DS is almost 3 and this is the first year he understands Christmas. DP and I have decided to go down the route of "Santa brings the stocking and one main present" and all the others are from us/GPs/friends etc. So I'm just wondering when we put the non-Santa presents under the tree? DP and I were both brought up in our families believing Santa bought everything and all the presents appeared Christmas night. Now we're doing things differently I'm thinking it's perfectly fine to put the non-Santa presents under the tree before Christmas?

Presents from friends and family go under the tree as and when they are given. Everything else on Xmas eve. DS has never liked his stocking in his room - he's 12 now. It used to go on the landing at my dads but I can't remember what We did with it last year.

We do stocking and main presents from Santa and a few bits from us.

This year I think we won't put them under at all because dd 2.4 tends to open any present within 50 yrds. "My birday present!"

Gifts we have bought for others go under the tree when it is put up (testing 2yo dds restraint this year!) and any we get from.other. Mine, DHs and DDs presents stay hidden.

Christmas Eve, don't trust the kids not to open them.

Presents from others as and when they are given. Presents to other people from us, once they are wrapped.

Apart from the stocking Santa leaves a few bigger things under the tree for each DC, late on Christmas eve. They are always well mixed in and 'hidden' so it looks at first glance that nothing extra has been added, so its more of a surprise when they are found later in the day.

Main gift from me to the DC doesn't get put under the tree until after they are in bed on Christmas night, ready to open on Boxing day morning.

Usually straight under the tree but I don't know how well DD (also almost 3) will cope with that. We are putting the tree up on Sunday and I think almost four weeks of looking at presents is a bit too much, particularly as she is also waiting for the arrival of her baby sister. We will probably put them under around 20th.

They go under as and when they're wrapped. Things for others go under our tree until we see them and pass them on. Some of our dcs presents go under but they've never opened them before the day. There are usually quite a few more presents that go under on Christmas eve after my last minute marathon wrap. Don't your trees look very bare without presents underneath for the whole month?
