17.50 delivered! We've not had a real one for years as we've had no car...well now we DO have a car I've found a plantation which delivers! They told me they'd send me a photo of the tree before they cut it down to make sure I like it!

Can't wait! Have you got a real one or a fake one? I have a lovely fakey in the attic but just wanted a real one for once.

We have a real one (Fraser fir), nearly 10ft tall, awaiting lights!

We had to lug it home from Homebase ourselves though.

Decorating the house as we speak, so by tonight it will be all twinkly and nice!

Ooh! That is cheap, I usually get one from the Fruit and Veg man but that is £29 -£35 delivered depending on the size. They always look tiny when they are outside so I end up cutting loads off Blush

notso · 26/11/2013 11:52

Dusty but it's only November won't it be a twig by Christmas Day!

DustyBaubles · 26/11/2013 11:55

Not at all notso.

For the last 12 years, I've been in charge of tree buying. It stays up 'til Jan 6th, and only ever droops a little. The needle colour fades a bit, but they don't drop off, and it still looks fine when we take it down.

A Norway spruce would be a disaster though - that would be just a twig after a couple of weeks.

notso · 26/11/2013 12:03

Is the Fraser fir one with fat needles or thin needles?
I don't think I could be doing with one up that long but ours usually look fine until you touch them!

Today I saw a sign outside our village stores about preordering your tree. She is charging £3.50 a ft and as we don't need more than 5ft it should come in the same sort of price as yours. Plus we are putting custom to the village shop rather than a big garden centre or DIY store :)

winklewoman · 26/11/2013 16:55

Watering is key. It's amazing how much they take up. We stick with Norway Spruce for tradition and provided it is fresh when we get it, we have no probems. (famous last words)

lucysmam · 26/11/2013 17:12

ooh, I would love a real tree. Was always very Envy of some family friends of ours when I was growing up...they always had a huge real tree & it was stunning Smile

Sorry, a turkey related question.

Cooking for 15. I'm wondering whether I should go for 2 smaller turkeys rather than a big one which may not fit in the oven and am worried will dry out because I will have to cook it for so long!!

WWYD? And roughly what weight turkey/s with enough for leftovers?

Jungfraujoch · 26/11/2013 17:22

Apologies! Completely wrong thread!

Back to the trees!

Oldraver · 26/11/2013 19:05

I've had a fake one for about 15 odd years but always had a real one before that. We used to buy it from a guy in the town who grew Christmas Trees in his back garden, we would choose and tag it then collect when we wanted it and on a few occasions had it sticking out of the sunroof.

Our house is now built on the Christmas Tree farm, though we have 4 higher than the house Fir trees in the front garden

£17.50 is fantastic. How big is it?

We have ended up paying nearly £50 for the last couple of years for a six-footer.

ICameOnTheJitney · 26/11/2013 20:56

It's 5 foot 5Foot Grin but a 6 foot is only 2.50 more...so am a bit tempted but not going to change now I don't think. Besides he might already have cut it!
