Teachers present?

FortyFacedFuckers · 25/11/2013 17:02

I need ideas for a teachers present for the below people?

One female mid 20's not married, no children
One male early 30's married, young kid, baby on the way.

Any ideas? Will spend around £10

I usually go down the candle route but not sure the man would appreciate that.

Is wine really ok? I always feel weird about sending wine as a gift from my child? And I always imagine you would get loads of chocolates? Thanks for your help.

Is there a teacher's present thread? I'm struggling for ideas too. After nearly a term I'm not sure how much I know about the teacher (not that I should I add, but some are chatty about things and I guess some not)

ancelynthecraven · 25/11/2013 17:49

The little boxes from Lush are lovely.
I love getting those. £10 pounds is very generous but I've treasured key rings with Best Teacher on the most.
Lanyards are good because then teacher can wear their keys around their neck when they are on the move and not lose them.
Or a key ring that beeps if you whistle. Good if the teacher puts the keys down and can't find them.

ancelynthecraven · 25/11/2013 17:50

A lanyard with the male teachers fave football or rugby team on it?

Funkybutnot · 25/11/2013 18:09

I always buy DCs teachers a Cath kidston make up bag. They're lovely and the smaller one is about £10.

DisneyAddict88 · 25/11/2013 18:15

£10 seems alot for a teacher pressie isnt it more of a small token from the child? we are doing a pair of fluffy socks each (little one will choose) with a tag saying hope u have warm and cosy mistletoes this christmas - pinched from another thread - and a homemade card

so could do that and maybe get some novelty character socks for the male?

makemineapinot · 25/11/2013 18:23

This teacher seconds the wine idea!! Usually mire than ready fir it by the end of term! I always buy my DC's teachers wine too with positive feedback! If there's a TA you could split your budget between teacher and assistant, they usually work closely with the children too and I like seeing CA/TAs getting pressies too!

DS has two teachers and as he has just moved upto the school I was a but lost for ideas. Anyway thanks to another thread in here I now have a small wicker basket (made DH detour when on holiday as I saw a Home Bargains and we don't have one of those :()
Filled with the box filling from my Flavourly box :)
Clipper coffee, Clipper instant hot choc and a bag of Tea Pigs, all bought over a few weeks and just added into the weekly shop so no huge initial outlay.
A box of Waitrose biscuits, BOGOF. Just before we give them DS and I will make a couple small bags of biscuits/ chocolates as well. I was advised to give gifts like cakes etc a couple of weeks before term ends as it gives teachers the opportunity to share them in the staff room, seems to make sense but I have yet to get around to it :o

lucysmam · 25/11/2013 18:25

We're making mini christmas cakes (a compromise....dd wanted to make a whole load of full sized cakes Shock Grin ) ....whether they get eaten or not is up to the teachers but dd is happy with spending the (supervised) time making them

Baileyscoffeeandcampfires · 25/11/2013 18:26

Starbucks gift cards have been gratefully received in the past.

I have also made chocolate brownies and dd has mad coasters from Hama breads

FortyFacedFuckers · 25/11/2013 18:29

Thanks for all the ideas, really rubbish at getting presents for people I know nothing about and I worry that they end up with 25 things all the same.
I said £10 as I am willing to spend up to that for something that will be appreciated but of course if I can get something nice for a few pounds I will definitely do that.

I was going to make Christmas cupcakes but not sure if I will have time, I have 2 teachers to buy for (one male, one female) and dd2 has 2 TA's that work with her all week so will give them a little something too, I don't usually bother with teachers but both dd's have had great teachers this year (have been very supportive and understanding with both dd's being autistic) so I want to say 'thank you' to them Smile.

Katieweasel · 25/11/2013 19:02

My DS chose some lovely owl tea light holders from Tesco for his 2 teachers. £3 each! Bargain and look a lot more expensive! Have done costa and Starbucks gift cards in the past and these went down well. You can't go wrong with wine. My sister is a TA and gets lots of wine. She's always very happy with that!

tinselkitty · 25/11/2013 19:07

I got a massive kath kidston mug one year. It's just the right amount off coffee to keep me going for a morning :)

pigsinmud · 25/11/2013 19:18

We're assembling these this year.

octopusinastringbag · 25/11/2013 19:25

I never know what to give, wine doesn't seem right (not everybody likes wine and red/white/rose or whatever). TBH I don't think it is necessary or expected to give a gift to the teacher or their assistant. It doesn't stop me though.

SilkStalkings · 25/11/2013 19:48

I usually buy bracelets in Sainsburys when they're reduced for the lady teachers.

LaVitaBellissima · 25/11/2013 19:51

At our girls nursery, we have a class rep who collects money from the parents so each teacher, plus assistants gets a bigger gift usually vouchers and some flowers. £10 for Xmas and £10 for end of year presents. This year though I think they are getting hampers x

lucysmam · 25/11/2013 19:53

schilke they look fab, I might pinch that idea Grin

MaxsMummy2012 · 25/11/2013 19:54

The best presents I've been given at christmas (as a 30 year old teacher) are christmas tree decorations and the best bit is that we can get them out each year and remember the little lovely who gave it to us. We get bombarded with choccy so it's nice to get something different and a keepsake. X

pigsinmud · 25/11/2013 20:05

I found it on Pinterest lucysmam! Looked quite straightforward for my basic skills.

pigsinmud · 25/11/2013 20:07

We did button christmas tree decorations last year. They were simple to do too.

insanityscratching · 25/11/2013 20:15

Dd is making these this year. Last year she made these and the year before these I then buy either wine or chocolates, this year I bought the Santa tins when they were half price and used dd's staff discount. Dd enjoys making things and so the gifts are personal to her I suppose and her teachers always seem happy with them anyway.

Sonotkylie · 25/11/2013 20:38

I normally get christmas decorations - small and individual ones up to about £6 for teacher and TA. Would that work for a bloke too? This year DS pans to make some decorations. I have bought something to hold in reserve for when we don't get round to it ...
