Does it have to be one big thing or could the £40 be split up? If just one item, I'd probably go for a playmobil set

nomorebooze · 24/11/2013 22:36

Thanks for replying fuzzpig:)its for my daughter from my sis , I just cant think what she will play with! hate buying unused toys, were getting a sylvanian family house and parents and a few others are getting her things for that.....want something else for her though? what playmobil things do you rate....can be a few bits

I have 2 dds age 8&6 and from experience I'd go for Lego friends set or a design a friend set (doll, outfit and accessory for £30)

. A fab dress up outfit from the disney store cost approx £40 (yes you can get cheaper but they feel cheaper and less special/like a main gift iyswim!). Mine are getting the new frozen movie outfits and they are gorgeous! Very thick material, hooped skirts etc...just gorgeous :)

iamusuallybeingunreasonable · 24/11/2013 22:39

Lego friends stuff

nomorebooze · 24/11/2013 22:41

thanks all:) will take a look at all your fab suggestions!

Playmobile- swimming pool/caravan for example.

jamtoast12 · 24/11/2013 22:43

Ah Polly pocket! mine both loved her at age 4!

AbiRoad · 24/11/2013 22:44

Give your sister the task of tracking down Lucy the dog!

Mittensonkittens · 24/11/2013 22:45

Lost my name looks gorgeous.
My ds only has three letters in his name though, would it be really short?!

nomorebooze · 24/11/2013 22:46

Playmobil wise you can sometimes get the huge playmobil ship for under £40 (I got it for £30 recently) or there's the swimming pool which is around £20, that's my DD's main present this year and I know she will be over the moon. TBH if I could I'd get every sodding playmobil set there is, I love it :o

Or if you want something 'worthy', I recently went to a local music store and spent around £40 on lovely musical instruments - tambourine, mini cymbals, guiro etc - much more grown up than the baby type ones you can get in ELC

fuzzpig · 24/11/2013 22:56

Polly pocket just ain't the same as it used to be :( same with puppy in my pocket. Wish I'd kept all my old stuff!

DisneyAddict88 · 24/11/2013 23:07

fuzzpig I agree!

polly pocket was always destined to be sucked up by the hoover!! although forgot just how tiny it was until my friend gave dd a set she got in the charity shop! now the challenge is stopping the little one eating them! !

we kept my old puppies and dd loves them but ebay seems to have loads quite cheap or carboots we got one of the houses from there Grin

penguinplease · 25/11/2013 05:57

Design a friend! Lego and polly pocket too similar to sylvanian ime and will get ignored

Does she go to school? Learning Resources does a fabulous pretend and play school set, which my DS (he was 4 then) absolutely loved last year. They also do a pretend and play post office set, wwhich eh is having this year. They are around the £20 mark each.

Playmobil swimming pool would be lovely for her at this age. As would the playmobil camper van, I think. They are around £20 each. The coach/school bus is also very nice for about £20. I wouldn't recommend the aeroplane as it falls apart.

Does she have a camera? The Vtech one is really easy for children her age to understand. And Ds has really enjoyed using his Innotab 2 (which are less than £40 I think, now that the Innotab 3 has come out).

I have heard good things about the Leap Tab readrer (the one with the pen that stores up to 10 or so books on it and says the words as the child points at the words in the book with the pen). That is £40 as a starter pack, and then you can buy further books within her age range.

Hama Maxi Stick is good for her age too. You get a board, pegs and two patterns in a box for £10. You can re-use and re-use.the Melissa and Doug threading animal cards are good for her age too. And DS liked Tap Tap Art at that age (buy an extra cork board if you can).

Would she like the imaginext castle? It has been reduced to £39.99 at some places (there was a link to it in another Christmas thread). I think that is brilliant.

princesscupcakemummyb · 25/11/2013 15:37

argos have pre order of 4 days on lucy the dog :)

MummytoMog · 25/11/2013 15:46

If you can find the Disney Princess Little People Castle for that, that has been the best toy EVER. My four year old daughter loves it, and her two year old brother is pretty darn keen on it too. I've seen it reduced before now to £40.

I may, during the course of tidying up, 'check' that it still works properly by playing with it for a bit.

AbiRoad · 25/11/2013 19:36

No actual idea if Lucy the Dog if any good but noticed from posts on here that it is very popular this year so have been toying with trying to get it for my neice. Quite possibly it is rubbish and they have deliberately held back stock to increase the hype, so if anyone has actual feedback on it I would appreciate it too!

olivo · 25/11/2013 19:44

I second the playmobil swimming pool, the ice cream parlour is good too. I managed to get the school for my 4yo DD reduced from 120 to 40. She finds Lego friends too diddly, but DD aged 7 likes them.
