build a bear - how much would an average spend be?

I'm sure this is one of those "how long's a piece of string" things, but anyway

the dds have never been, and I thought they might like build a bear vouchers for christmas (plus I though it would be something nice for us to do together over the holidays)

would they be able to get something decent for £30 each? or even £25? I would rather not hand over a blank cheque, but nor do I want to be saying No to every little add-on, especially as the 3yo's concept of money is still rather lacking.

£30 is about right

Bear + sound about 15-18

Accessories push it up to £30 for an outfit

IHadADreamThatWasNotAllADream · 23/11/2013 15:21

30 should be fine. Even 25 would be OK for an animal and a single cheaper outfit, but you wouldn't get shoes for that I don't think.

If you sign up online for BAB club and fabricate a December birthday for DD then you should get a voucher by email that will bump up their spend a bit.

WorkingtoohardMama · 23/11/2013 15:22

I think the basic animals are about £8 and the outfits around £10, I think you can spend fortunes, but £25-£30 would get them a nicer bear (think the character ones are around £16-18) and an outfit.

Anja1Cam · 23/11/2013 15:29

My kids got £25 gift cards a couple of years ago and that was enough for a mid bear, without extras such as sound or beating hearts though, and for an outfit with shoes (IIRC, we have amassed a vast collection of BB stuff since then).

KringleCandleLover · 23/11/2013 15:33

Its just cost me £28 for a bear, christmas outfit and shoes.

No heart or noise though.

Mittensonkittens · 23/11/2013 15:37

I spent £50 on Rudolph.

He had a sound, a jumper, a collar and some skates.

£50! Shock

They tried to convince me to buy pyjamas too!

wonderingsoul · 23/11/2013 15:39

30 sounds about right..

i spent 60 last year for ds2 birthday but that was for two bears and add ons

armybear- sound box amry outfit. and army shoes.

oldfashion bear- sounds box, woody outfit and woody shoes..
they came to 30 each.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 23/11/2013 15:40

£50?

is a really hard sell? cos I don't have 2x £50, not as this would be in addition to their Big present

Hi Charlotte. A little tip -go on ebay and I got £15 worth of babw vouchers for £1?? done this twice. And they accepted

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 23/11/2013 15:49

I just spent £46 on no doubt the same rudolph as kringle. Ouch.

Ihavemyownname · 23/11/2013 15:53

I spent £40 on Rudolph yesterday he has a hat scarf and jumper and a lead he also sings Rudolph the red nose raindeer Hmm I'm regretting that already

IHadADreamThatWasNotAllADream · 23/11/2013 15:56

No, they're not normally hard sell - at this time of year the staff don't have time to be hard sell. Seriously, you'll be fine with 16.50 for a bear and 10 quid for an outfit, and if you manage to nab a newsletter voucher (or go for a 13.50 bear) then that will give you leeway for shoes / sound effect.

AuditAngel · 23/11/2013 16:07

DD1 had a build a bear party for her birthday. I set a limit of £20 per chid. One child bought the cheapest bear with a school skirt, school shirt and I think one more accessory. Another child got an expensive bear n was en restricted to only a small accessory. I was quite harsh, another child had her bear then wanted a skirt and a top but I wouldn't buy both, I made her choose.

£25 would give them lots of choice, but you will need to be ready to say no. A LOT.

Mittensonkittens · 23/11/2013 16:12

I was there early so was the only customer and got a bit pounced on.
It was the skates that bumped the price up. I had to put sodding boots on the reindeer first.
I did want skates. I did not especially want a jumper and matching scarf.

UnicornsPooGlitter · 23/11/2013 16:23

Oh, I so want to do this. DS has no concept of £ though Grin.

Marne · 23/11/2013 16:54

First time we went I spent £100 on 2 Shock, we have been several times since and I have limited them to one bear and one piece of clothing and it has been around £25-£30 (I think the my little ponies cost me a bit more), sometimes they have bears for £10-£15, a t-shirt costs around £5 so £25 is plenty.

redstripeyelephant · 23/11/2013 17:16

If you can steer them towards the cheaper bears and away from the extras like £4.50 for a beating heart, £2.50 for a smell etc then £30 is about right. I spent about £30 each on my DDs recently- DD2 got the cheapest teddy, an outfit, some shoes and a brush. DD2 got a dog, a collar and lead and a kennel (no clothes- I told her it was either the kennel or clothes and she chose the kennel!)

I was Shock at the cost, and made them aware it was a very special gift that would not be repeated!

They were also doing an offer that if you spent a certain amount you could buy a £10 voucher for a fiver, so I have that stashed away for a stocking filler.

Katieweasel · 23/11/2013 18:09

I'm hoping £30 is plenty as I bought a voucher for my DN today!
