Blooming Secret Santa - any ideas?

I have to buy for a woman in the office who I don't know very well at all, this is all I really know about her - mid to late thirties, has one child, likes baking, has recently done a charity trek, always has lovely clothes and nails, erm that's about it.

We'd supposed to spend about £5-10 and apparently its best if its funny. I'm relatively new in the team so I haven't been there for previous years to see what was bought. I can think if some quite good ideas for a couple of people that I think would be funny and that they'd like, but no ideas for this lady. Any ideas???

A nice notebook from somewhere like paperchase is always quite a nice little gift IMO

Pastry/cookie cutters.

A pair of hiking socks.

Silly shaped cutters for baking?
Silly apron?
Nail decorations?
Mirror for handbag? (With "hello gorgeous" type caption.

And if you have change from the pastry/cookie cutters you could buy funky patterned bun cases.

Willie shaped cookie cutters She might even bake some biscuits and bring them in

Don't waste your money on something 'funny' for the sake of it.

Nice hand cream (Aveda do a mini one for about £6.50 which feels v luxurious) and a nail varnish

Yes to funky bun cases, and maybe some 'nice' sprinkles etc - Waitrose usually have a good selection

RudolphLovesoftplay · 22/11/2013 22:09

Cath Kidston have a funky Christmas mug, it's £7 I think.

iwouldgoouttonight · 22/11/2013 22:10

Wow you are all much more imaginative than me, I couldn't think of anything! I like the biscuit cutters/funky cake cases idea. I'd thought of a nail varnish but want sure if it'd be a bit boring if people were buying amusing things, but I think you're right, better to get something nice/useful than risk something that could be funny but might not be!

How about a cake pops kit - with a silicone tray for making cake pops, some sticks and sprinkle decorations?

AuditAngel · 22/11/2013 22:13

I have bought lovely scarves for each of mine (I work in 2 offices) linked from the Christmas Bargain thread £9. I think it was thread 23 or thereabouts.

Our budget is a sodding three measly pounds.

Last year I got my secret santee what I thought was a nice Christmas tree decoration but her face on unwrapping it told me that it was clearly a rubbish choice.

This year I got the name of a colleague who I already had a pact with (we'd promised to buy each other lottery scratchcards and then go fifty fifty on our millions) - result!

Except it turned out the draw had been bodged and we had to do it again and now I've got the same person as last time Hmm Bugger.

iwouldgoouttonight · 23/11/2013 08:34

sleepyhead, three pounds?! That must be impossible. This is the first year I've been involved in a secret Santa and already I've decided I do not like it!

Three quid - one of those tiny bottles of fizz? A bottle of garlic or chilli flavoured olive oil? Nice coffee or teabags? Fluffy socks?

cece · 23/11/2013 14:15

I always resort to crotchless knickers in these circumstances.

IsleOfRight · 23/11/2013 14:17

I would be mortified to be bought willy shaped anything at work and as a boss would think it inappropriate if someone did this for a work secret Santa however silly it is meant to be.

AuditAngel · 23/11/2013 18:58

These were the ones I meant earlier

Isle, I agree with you. Last year someone brought a young male member of my team an apron with blow up boobs with tassels. He wore it at the dinner, and played along but I suspect he was mortified. I would have been.

HomeEcoGnomist · 23/11/2013 19:25

I would ignore the 'silly' instruction...

Was in cafe Nero the other day and they were advertising gift cards as secret Santa presents...thought that was quite a good idea
