Hi,
I want to buy some gifts for local toy appeal for disadvantaged children. Gifts need to be between £5-10 and Ideally I want to find something for children of a range of ages (so teenage suggestions would be great please). Any suggestions welcome - I plan on taking the kids out shopping to choose some bits too but as there are so many bargains about I would like to choose a few online too - plan on getting the hide and squeak eggs from amazon so have baby stage covered.
thanks

I normally send some form of smellies/make up sets for teenagers - I normally do the boots 3 for 2.

DS is 4 and he loves things like hotwheels cars which aren't too expensive

I always avoid anything which needs batteries/charging as I don't want to add in any sort of extra expense for the families.

I have just donated a bag of toys to my local appeal, however I didn't buy them as they were all duplicate toys from my dc bday parties. I collect duplixate or similar toys given for bday or when people visit & donate. They are all brand new & still unopened in their boxes, so far I've given away:
Books
lego sets
duplo
craft sets
Build a robot kit
giant inflatable football kit
music cds
jewellery making kits

I think the boots 3 for 2 smellies is a good idea. I've tried to choose 'unisex' type toys like play dough sets, craft, plastic animals etc.

I was thinking new look voucher or ITunes card for teens. There was a roxy bag reduced to £5.99 in argos so got an extra one for appeal. Good suggestion about avoiding the toys that require batteries so I will bear that in mind

I got hair chalks from Amazon and the watch and Rihanna perfumes from the magazine subscriptions on the bargain thread for teens. I picked up some finger skateboard sets when they were massively reduced in Argos, and some sets of animal figures that were reduced from £5.99 to £3.99 in B&M yesterday. The Works have some dinosaur figures in a huge box for about £7. I'm going to look in TKMaxx for headphones, later. Oh, and Tesco direct have a massive ZhuZhu pets set reduced to £7.50.

great suggestions thanks! Teens are tricky I recon but some excellent ideas there!

Imnotweird iTunes perhaps best avoided as would require them having iPhone or ipod rather than any other kind of phone/mp3
I don't download music so don't know if there's a more generic option!

Theres some little puzzle bits from The happy Puzzle Company on sale, from around £5 down to £1.50-£3, think those would be good for teens?

TeaAndCakeOrDeath · 23/11/2013 10:54

Or some gloves? £17.99 down to £3.99

Argos on eBay have a buy one get one free on selected toys. I got some for the Salvation Army toy appeal earlier.

My aim is to each year buy an extra gift that would be the sort of thing that would be suitable for my own children (the idea being I know what that age group is in to). So this year I am buying something for a three year old and something for a nearly one year old.

As they get older I hope to transfer the responsibility on to them and ask them to choose something they would like to give to a child the same age as themselves.

I got a set of three JCB vehicles for someone's three year old. My son has one of these and loves it. He rolls it down the garden and crashes it in to things.

For a younger child I got the Fisher Price Racin' Ramps Fire Station. My younger son is a bit little for it even though it says from six months but he would enjoy watching the car go down the ramp and the lights and sounds. I hope this one would be suitable across a large age range as my three year old would play with it as well.

I also want to pick up a gift for an older child or teenager as I think they get less. I see the trolleys in Asda piled high with little children's toys but nothing for older ones.

This year I am going to buy a small Lego Technic set for an older child. It says age 7-14 on the packet and my husband assures me it is for an older child not a little one. The Amazon reviews had adults commenting who had brought it for themselves. If the Hide and Squeak Eggs are still on offer when I order on Monday I will get those as well.

When I pop in to Asda during the time they have the trolleys out I will try and add a smaller item like a selection box or a tube of sweets on to every shop to put in.

Here are some suggestions for £5-£10

Little Tikes Stacking Rings £3.50 in Asda, my youngest loves them)
Annuals - WH Smith had buy one get one for £1 when I was in earlier in the week
WOW toys Sidney School bus £10 on Amazon. It is a great toy and lovely for a range of ages.
Melissa and Doug Alphabet puzzle currently £4.99 on Amazon
Fisher Price Brilliant Basics stacking blocks £8.27 on Amazon, my older son loved these
Viga 50 piece wooden block set £8.25 on Amazon at the moment
Viga on Amazon seems to be a good brand to look at, they have lots of budget friendly wooden toys. I have never ordered so I can vouch for quality but the reviews seem to be good.

Sorry, most are for younger children as that is what I am more familiar with at the moment.

I get dd1 to choose something she'd like for a tenner
she puts in £5 from her pocket money.

this year we got a Barbie, which came with a few accessories.

There's some good creative things out there for kids of that age. Djeco is a French company that has stuff at all prices. My niece loves these paper toys to make, & they were only £5.50. minibugsboutique.co.uk/collections/create-creative-kits/products/pretty-woodland-animal-paper-toys

DH and I took DS and DD2 out on Saturday and we each choose a gift to donate.

DD2 choose a half price pirate ship bath toy from Sainsburys (£5 from £10)
DS got a One Direction album for DD1's Christmas so he figured another 9/10yr old would like it too and choose that.
DH choose a 1/2 price camera as he thought that would be ideal for a teenager... then he remembered it needed an sd card so that was an extra.
I choose a half price barbie reduced to £5.

We figure we would have spent that money on random things we don't need throughout December.
