Oh and which princess castle did your dd want?

There are two at argos, both of which should be about the same price, both look pretty similar but one of them has a couple of pounds off, the other is half price. Might be worth checking out if you are going to price check things...

www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/1292068.htm - this should actually be the more expensive of the two but is the cheapest at £63

www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3974700.htm - is £117

There really doesn't seem to be much difference - a pegasus in the top set, a tiara in the second (i think child sized rather than playmobil sized!)

mumofbeautys · 19/11/2013 23:46

I only found one on the play mobile section the 117 pound one. I will have a look :)

mumofbeautys · 19/11/2013 23:51

ahh yh ones slightly smaller but that's It :) thank you for that I will try amend my order.

Luggage16 · 19/11/2013 23:52

might as well save where you can (and then you can spend the difference on some nice extras or a fun day out!)

mumofbeautys · 20/11/2013 00:02

yeh, to be fair I don't think I have 2 badly lol dd1 has seemed to cost pound but that includes a full size wooden fence ! so not really bad considering.

im going to do loads of nice activites at home this year , ( we cant go out ) I just hope it doesn't snow this year as she will be devastated she can't play in it x

we have a small playmobile farm, bought years ago.

I find that the kids don't really play with the farm building much, they play with the bits, so over the years our farm has acquired about 4 tractors, loads of extra animals, some extra (not playmobile) fencing to make fields and so on. I would be tempted to buy a smaller farm and then buy lots more animals etc so they have more to play with. Tractor plus trailer for the animals is very popular.

My dd loves the tiny boxes, one girl plus her horse and a bucket, they make great add ons to the farm as it gives them more figures and animals to play with.

As to the person who said 'what do you get if you only spend £20'

well, as I said up thread, we spend about £50. So dd will be getting a scooby doo van that she has been going on about (£20 Asda), plus extra scooby doo figures bought on ebay. Plus other bits and pieces that she wants.
If you have the money to spend, great, but I find it really sad that people go into debt in order to buy a larger item, when it isn't actually necessary. Ds last year got the large lego boat, about £50 new, bought in ebay for about £30. He loved it. They just don't expect to get the large £100 lego sets.
I think it is really important to do Christmas according to your own budget.

NormanTheForeman · 21/11/2013 10:24

Playmobil isn't cheap, but it is good quality and worth it. But I suppose I would say that, wouldn't I? Wink

But I would maybe recommend getting several smaller sets to start with (in the same or a similar theme) so they can all be played with together, rather than one large set with a building.

The great thing is, it can always be added to in the future. Smile

Guitargirl · 21/11/2013 11:04

OP - camelcamelcamel website is your friend in the future for tracking Amazon prices, if you start early enough you can wait until they drop in price (often coincided with the time that Argos does their 3 for 2 offers).

Is your DD poorly? (tell me am being nosey if you don't want to answer)

Elouie · 21/11/2013 12:38

I bought the playmobile fantasy castle from very.co.uk, they had it on at half price at £75 and I signed up to their credit account to get an extra 10% off, but will pay it off immediately and not use it again. I also went to the website through quidco and got an extra £4 off. It's the smaller version of the castle but the rooms are furnished so no need to buy extra really.

I also bought the knights castle from my son. Toys r us had a 20% offer on the other week (wish I'd known what else he wanted at the time) and spend £45 on playmobile and get a free playmobile advent calendar so I also got the vet clinic which was already reduced from £50 to £35 plus 20% off. I have asked grandparents to buy some little add ons to the collection.

Definitely knowing your budget in advance and shopping accordingly is the way to go.

I have an individual budget for everyone and challenge myself to buy presents that would have cost more (but are on offer or sale) and then come in under my original budget. ie for some friends children my budget was £10, I found them toys on offer at 2 for £10 and then had a voucher for 25% off so their individual presents came in at £3.75 but are actually worth a lot more Grin

I got the top one, but what I can't work out is why it should be more expensive as it is smaller than the second one, the only thing I can think of is that it is furnished and has more figures / pegasus.

The second one is currently on offer at argos though at £89.99.

mumofbeautys · 21/11/2013 17:59

I finally ordered it all and amended some orders I think I have both girls sorted now !! lol although I still want to cry a little bit.

I saw the same caste for 128 pound last night !!!! amazing how prices can differ.

gutairgirl .. yes both girls are poorly , daughter who wants the farm is in a very bad way at the moment. she spends a lot of time indoors so doesn't really get outings or outdoor toys so wanted to make sure she got some special stuff for indoors x

I need a furby now though does anyone know where th ebest priced one is ?

OP posts:
zipzap · 21/11/2013 18:26

Well done you OP for changing your order and getting better prices!

Best place to ask about the furby is on the christmas bargain threads - this one is now onto its 25th new thread as the bargains pile up quickly... Grin

Furbys have definitely been mentioned but as I haven't wanted one I can't remember which one is cheapest currently. Just ask though - somebody will know! (It's a very friendly set of threads!)

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/Christmas/1915281--I-hope-this-christmas-somebody-gives-me-the-gift-of-a-bigger-house-I-m-going-to-need-it-to-fit-all-the-stuff-I-ve-bought-from-this-thread-bargain-thread-24

have to dash but only place I have seen furbys and thought price looked relatively cheap was at costco, might be worth looking on their site. And on amazon with camelcamel to see if there are any predictable price movements.

and then check on the above thread as people are very knowledgeable about discount codes, vouchers etc

Good luck (and hope your dd's are better soon!)

Luggage16 · 21/11/2013 18:33

amazons furbys keep going up and down. I used a discount voucher and bought from tesco (£10 of £50 order) for one and the other was from toys r us again with voucher so they both worked about around £44 for the booms. Amazon has been as low as £33 though!

Marne · 21/11/2013 19:09

I think its ok if that what they have asked for (and as long as you are not spending £100's on extra gifts), also playmobil holds its value so if after a year or 2 they have got fed up with it you can sell it and probably get at least half your money back for it (just remember to keep the boxes). A few years ago I bought dd1 the circus and several small sets (cost me around £90), after a year or 2 I sold it for £50 which went towards that years Christmas presents. I don't mind spending a bit extra on something that will get played with a lot and can be sold on after.

derektheladyhamster · 21/11/2013 19:13

second keeping the boxes.

Just ebaying all our playmobil at the moment, knights/pirates and dinosaurs though!

mumofbeautys · 21/11/2013 19:15

do you build playmobil or does it like just come like that lol sorry im useless you wouldn't think I have had kids for 4 years lol

Guitargirl · 21/11/2013 19:18

Maybe you could decorate their room all nice and Christmassy and cosy, get them to help you make decorations if they are up for that, it wouldn't need to cost much? You can get gingerbread house kits pretty cheaply these days and I know my DD loves decorating those. I know you are not asking about this specifically but as it's difficult for them to go out...There's another thread at the moment about how to decorate a Santa's grotto on a budget, you could make their room into a grotto!

Marne · 21/11/2013 19:21

You have to build it, the bigger sets can take several hours so would recommend building them Christmas eve if you can (or you will spend all day Christmas day building it).

FrozenDough · 22/11/2013 09:42

mumofbeautys furbys are on offer at tesco for £29.98 at the min use code TDX-7DXM for £10 off a £50 spend

shezzle · 22/11/2013 09:50

I love playmobil, got the hotel and extra suite for dd2 this year. If you are a tesco shopper you can buy it all with club cards during the club card boost. Which is what I did this year but you do have to plan and get in early as it goes quickly but saves a lot of money. I think it's an investment if you have more than one child and too be honest when 21 year old dd comes home she plays with it all with her little sisters! Grin

wonderingsoul · 22/11/2013 09:50

have to add thats not t his years furby, thats last years furby.. i dont know if theres a differeance..i think it may be that you cant use the free app on it?

Luggage16 · 22/11/2013 09:59

yep the ap is the difference, plus this years ones seem a bit plumper and have patterns rather than solid colours. The ap does loads though so i would say it depends whether you have a tablet etc and also if you kids would see the adverts and expect the furby to do everything the new one does or not (My daughter hasnt seen any adverts but has spotted them in toys r us so knows the new ones can have babies - I think she would be a bit disapointed if hers couldn't iyswim)

mumofbeautys · 22/11/2013 10:55

I ordered the new one as they r getting a tablet so thought it would go hand in hand kind off lol lol shezzle I work in Tesco :)
