Giving presents to local needy causes

Does anyone know of any societies that want gifts for children or adults who are struggling at christmas? I am sick of all the foreign based charities and would like to buy gifts for those who need help in our own country.

Our Sainsburys tends to have a trolley in early December to put toys in for local children.

Check with the childrens ward at your local hospitals. My son was in hospital for a long time so I give to the following:
Evalina childrens hospital
Ronald Macdonald house
my local SN centre

Contact your local Homestart who support families in crisis in your area.

The one where I used to live welcomed all sorts of donations - they are now giving out food boxes so I am sure that ready-wrapped gifts / donations would be warmly welcomed. Saying that, the one where I live now is too small to store donations.

Check for your local women's aid/refuge or perhaps homelessness charities.

For me it's gut wrenching to think of a family fleeing for safety over Christmas.

you could also look at local homeless shelters. our local open house is looking for things like sleeping bags and thermos flasks to give out over winter for people they have to turn away :(

it's not christmas presents, but v. important!

My work have contacted the local food bank. We normally give money to UNICEF but this year will donate locally.

'Sick of all the foreign based charities' ?
Charity begins at home?
Wow.
Planet Earth is our home. If you give to Cancer research, do you specify that it should only be used for the benefit of people living in England? If you were to use a hospice, do you check that the donations were given solely by English (or Welsh, or Scottish wherever you live) people?
Do you carry a card to say that in the event of an accident, you would only accept a blood transfusion from someone in the same country as you?
It's a good job that the majority of people see the need, not the colour of skin or nationality.
