Sorry !!

I've got my DD a wooden advent calander and I need some more ideas what I can put in? Any ideas would be great, I've got balloons, these flashing light things, ginger bread men and then I get stuck

Chocolate coins
Animal shaped biscuits
wind up toys

How old is DD?

Moshi Monsters/Lego Minifigures? Not in every window, just one or two throughout the month.

Marbles
Hair bobbles
Badges/stickers
Funky shoelaces

I put a button in the drawer and my dc can exchange it for a gift that doesn't fit in the drawer, e.g. books, colouring pencils...

Hope that helps!

FarOverTheRainbow · 19/11/2013 15:27

Thanks some great ideas

DD will be 14m old so still young an that's why I'm finding it difficult with the doors being so small!

Hope this doesn't sound too worthy but I put in little notes of Christmassy things we will do on that day like make Xmas biscuits or watch an Xmas film together etc . It's quite useful reminder for me too e.g make grandparent Xmas card!

minilegofigure · 19/11/2013 15:28

Oops just seen your DC age. She is probably a bit young for the notes.

I put clues for a treasure hunt in mine. The clues have got harder as the DCs have got older. Won't work for a 14mth old - but when dd was 2.5 we did it with picture clues (eg a drawing pointing under her bed).

Would just go with chocolate coins in the drawers for now (that is what most of my clues take you to in any event).

10 finger puppets for £2.50ish - that covers 10 of the doors! I'm filling the rest with a chocolate and a sticker.

For an older child, I'm doing Squinkies for my 5YO DD.

I had just come to post finger puppets Grin. My DD doesn't eat chocolate so I can't do the cointa but thanks for the idea

How much space do you have behind each door? We have a lovely wooden advent train which was bought for our DC but the little draws are tiny. They don't even fit the large-size chocolate buttons!

Assuming you have slightly more space in yours, here are some suggestions:

  • ornaments to hang on the Christmas tree (obviously for the later doors when it's in/up). There's a lovely wooden nativity set by Giselle Graham that's £££s but you could probably pick up something similar but cheaper on the high street
  • Duplo picture blocks/figures if they'll fit. eBay is good, or this number train set is very cheap at the moment and includes 10 picture blocks and two figures
  • fridge magnets

Hair slides &/or bands
Little rubber stamps
Small animals/moshi monsters/playmobil figures
Stickers
Small fridge magnets
Bouncy balls
Stretchy mini animals
Wooden bracelet
Beaded elastic necklace

The boxes on ours are tiny so I also opt for having a few things draping out of partially open boxes (filled the evening before obviously), or sitting on the top instead.

I generally scour the pocket money section of toy shops for random bits, and carry one of the drawers around whilst shopping to see if stuff fits!

'Pretty' rocks have gone down well too (if you have a child that collects stuff!

Thanks for the help, I've now got some hair bobbles and clips, flashing bouncy ball, I've found a couple of sparkly tree decorations that I'll put in there and let her attempt with lots of help from mummy to put it on the tree and thought this will make nice photos for her box.

Now this is going off the thread but would love if anyone has any ideas, DD has the fisher price my first walker pram and loves going out with it but she gets very frustrated because the wheels don't turn so does anyone know of any prams that wheels turn but is still sturdy and won't fall under her weight and around the right size? Please Thanks

We have a silver cross one, same as this www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9059911.htm which was bought for DD1 when she was about 21 months. The handle is very adjustable. DD1 is a tall 6.5 (wearing age 8) and is now too tall, but perfect for DD2.

It has lasted really well, the only damage is a bite out of the foam protector around the handle.

FarOverTheRainbow · 24/11/2013 08:34

Thanks Audit does it feel sturdy or is it light?

Brilliant! I've bought so many things that don't fit, so going to do this now.
