Day trip to London.. Santa's Grotto at Harrods, Winter Wonderland and what else?

We've got tickets to visit Santa at Harrod's Christmas Grotto this Sunday at 12.30.

We're then meeting family at the cafe in Hyde Park to eat then walk around the Winter Wonderland.

(We went last year and although we enjoyed walking around, it was basically an over priced funfair!)

One family member is going the Ice Sculptures at 4.30pm, but we didn't fancy it.

My question is... What else could we 'add on'?
I'm worried we'll get bored at the Winter Wonderland.

(We'll be parking at Hyde Park, walking to Harrods and walking back to Winter Wonderland.. No set time.)

Any ideas would be great... x

We went to Santa Harrods last weekend, we went for ice-cream afterwards at the ice-cream parlour on the 2nd floor, they are doing a special Snowman ice-cream at the moment. It was ££££ but I figured it's only once a year and I used the £10 which had been put onto my Rewards card after the Santa visit to part (yes, part!) pay for it.

Getting the bus to Oxford St to see the lights. The 76, 10 & 8 go down Oxford st past Selfridges/ JL towards Topshop. You could see the display windows in Selfridges, Libertys etc.

Oh God, am almost too embarrassed to say. £15.50 for one ice-cream and I have two DCs. The waiter could so tell that we are not regular shoppers in Harrods. My response to his question 'And for you Madam?' was 'an extra spoon please'.

How old are your kids? I wouldn't dream of driving into central London, even if it weren't Christmas shopping. Can you make a real outing of it by going on train/bus/Tube if your kids are of an age when all that's part of the fun?

£15.50 for one ice cream. Shock Could you please describe it, guitar. I just can't imagine what it would look like.

Grin at "an extra spoon please".

i'd skip all that winter wonderland guff and head to one of the ice rinks. Nat history museum + wander around inside, or Canary Wharf followed by fixed price menu at Roka (although you are way too early for their actual xmas stuff in the malls and eastwintergarden which are FAB)

WaitMonkey - I have tried to link to a Snowman icecream picture here - hope it works.

Ouch! - it's a good job Christmas only comes once a year. Lovely treat though.

Lovely little christmas market on Southbank (near the London Eye). Last year it had a traditional merry-go-round and lots of christmas stalls and food.

The Snowman at the Peacock Theatre is very kid-orientated and a great show.
