DD has just had wood flooring laid in her room, I've been looking at rugs, she's asked me for a rug that is more then I really wanted to pay BUT wouldn't mind getting it as an xmas gift?

She's getting a main present this year so under the tree is going to look a tad sparse as it is.

Is this the SHITTEST gift ever?

How old is your DD?

scurryfunge · 18/11/2013 18:07

Will she have any Christmas money that she could make the difference wit if she really wants it?

UC · 18/11/2013 18:11

I don't see why that's a shit present at all if it's what she wants.

WhereBeThatBlackbirdTo · 18/11/2013 18:14

I think it depends how old your DD is and if it is what she wants.

I remember getting the first duvet in the family (back in the day when they were called continental quilts and we all had sheets and blankets). My mother was a bit taken aback that this was what I wanted but I was thrilled with it. I can still remember the bright yellow flowers on the cover and going to bed early on Christmas day just to use it Grin

It's a good gift, because it's useful, she likes it and it has some staying power, unlike lots of the plastic stuff often given at Christmas! I still remember how excited I was to get my Pierrot duvet cover in about 1979! And how excited my dds were to get Harry Potter ones in about 2003! :)

I'm getting a Le Crueset shallow casserole from my mother. Am very pleased cos I couldn't afford it and I really want one.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 18/11/2013 18:51

I think its a great gift and it is what she wants.

BeckyBrandon · 19/11/2013 00:24

She's 11. It IS a really gorgeous rug..

At 11 she should be old enough to understand that sometimes "less is more" :o
DS is 9 and wants the new xbox. He has been really good all year, doesn't get loads of treats at other times and we have agreed to split the cost with his GPs on the understanding that he will be getting very little else. He deliberated over this and finally decided it was a fair deal. FWIW I have requested socks for my birthday. It is a boring and shit present but I really want some new stripy socks and no bugger ever buys me them. My DM keeps saying "are you sure?" And I can imagine her doing this Hmm on the other end of the phone :o

CrotchStitch · 19/11/2013 03:21

A stinking great post there that didn't actually answer the OP Blush
So yes OP, as I was saying (!) if that's what she really wants then no it's not a shit present. If on the other hand she had not requested one and you gave it to her on Christmas morning, that would be shit

girlywhirly · 19/11/2013 08:59

If she really wants the rug, let her have it. Will she be getting a stocking as well, you could cut back on that with only a few items in it. Unless she doesn't get many gifts from relatives it won't look that bare under the tree.

BeckyBrandon · 20/11/2013 16:32

She'll will be getting a few other presents. Clothes, chocolates, games, smellies etc.

I have ordered the rug! She does really like things for her bedroom, so hopefully it's a winner.

Thanks Grin

bwahaha pierrot duvet cover remus. I also had the bath towel!

I think it's a good present (the rug)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/11/2013 18:53

Me too! And various figures AND a rug! :)

Theimpossiblegirl · 20/11/2013 18:58

It will look great wrapped up under the tree. I'm getting my nephew a car rug and I know he'll be delighted.
:)

TwoStepsBeyond · 20/11/2013 19:10

Could you maybe include a matching cushion or something so that its more like a room revamp than just a rug?! I'm sure she'll love it though.

Merguez · 20/11/2013 19:37

i don't really get this "main present" thing.

My dc's get one present from me and dh and one from each other. They get plenty of other stuff too from other family members and godparents …

Rug sounds like a great idea though. Practical and something she wants.

LayMizzRarb · 21/11/2013 10:42

Betsey Clarke duvet cover here!

AChickenCalledKorma · 21/11/2013 11:14

DD1 is 11 and would love a rug.

CMOTDibbler · 21/11/2013 11:18

Sounds great to me. Its really not about how many presents they have.

2kidsintow · 21/11/2013 23:40

My DD has had her room painted (to her choice of colours) and actually asked for carpet for Christmas. It was fitted last week. Looks lovely.

She picked a few little (B&M cheap) bits for her room and I made sure a few of those were put to one side to be wrapped up and put under the tree.

Mum and Dad are getting her a rug for her gift. :)

BeautifulBrinySea · 22/11/2013 00:06

How is it the "shittest present ever" if she's got a main present under the tree, and something she's really wanting and has asked for to boot?! Confused
I'll never understand all this consumer materialistic shizzle going on lately, it's like it's a competition to see who can buy the most.
Why?!
She gets a main present, and something she really wants too. Sounds great to me!

BeckyBrandon · 22/11/2013 14:31

Bitchy Bitchy...

I don't see how it's a "competition" I'm not buying her some gucci shoes... just a rug.

Merguez · 22/11/2013 14:40

I agree with BeautifulBrinySea

Did you really expect someone to come on here and tell you it was a crap present???
