What would a one year old girl like?

My friend is coming to visit from Scotland in two weeks and I'd like to get her baby a present. She'll be just over a year old. I've been looking, and there is a LOT of choice out there and I'm a little bit overwhelmed. (I'm also not used to shopping for girls, I seem to be surrounded by boys usually!)

If anyone has found a great present for a one year old girl, please share your wisdom!

Do you want to get her something to play with or more of a keepsake? What is your budget?

If you want something to play with try duplo, mine both loved this, teaset or a pop up tent. Books are always good too and my dd loves thisSmile

My dd absolutely loves the wooden peg and hammer game - try amazon.
It small enough to pack easily too when they go home

Hide and squeak eggs are brilliant. My nearly 3 yo still plays with his daily.

Not entirely sure I would have thanked you for arming my toddler with a hammer purple but everyone's different Grin

A stacking/nesting toy. A book with 'flaps'. A push/pull toy. Brio 'My First Railway' set. Duplo. Wooden peg puzzle.

Same things a one year old boy would like? Those hide and squeak eggs are good.

I suppose about £30 budget? But she's coming down by train so nothing bulky, though I might mention the trolley thing to her Mum because she's starting to walk now, and something to amuse her while she's here rather than a keepsake. I bought her a silver necklace for her christening, so that's covered. Something fun and noisy! I like the idea of a hammer and peg toy!

The leapfrog Scout or Violet puppies are lovely for that age, cute to carry and love and play music and can be jazzed up with internet access (with childs name etc)

They do a fancy one now that can read to the child, that one is about £30

DD really loved the fisher price teach and learn teapot set at that age
