What are you getting your 4yo son?

He has outgrown most of his toys so I'd really like to stock up his toy collection with stuff more age appropriate. So far I've bought:

Superman/Batman pjs
Lego city starter kit
Couple of books (DH bought them, not sure which they are)
Few cheap stocking fillers

I'd like to get a couple more things though. He doesn't get bought a huge amount of things during the year and he never asks for anything so I'd like to treat him.

4 yr old ds is gettin -

Some lego
Bukaroo
Leap pad game
Scooter
Bean bag

Half a tv (shared with brother)

ImaginativeNewName · 17/11/2013 20:09

We have a Scooby Doo obsession going on here so he is getting the haunted house and mystery machine and figures.

Hexbugs
That Tecsta robotic dog I have been nagged for since the summer which will probably be in bits by Boxing Day.
Jolly Roger ship
Some kind of launcher for his Ballistiks cars
Transformers

I could buy for my 4yo all day at the moment, am finding the 2yo much more difficult as he never seems to play with anything except his soft toys and a few cars. Grin

floatyflo · 17/11/2013 20:26

Yup Martha, he is an only at the moment, but am pregnant with a little sister so this will be his last Xmas alone.

He has got a massive amount this year, and we are well aware of making him know how lucky he is, and he is a thankful and polite little boy.

To be fair we have had nothing but skint Christmas the past couple of years, so am enjoying spoiling him this year!

floatyflo · 17/11/2013 20:27

Yes and also not alot of extended family to buy for or to buy for him.

fuzzpig · 17/11/2013 20:28

My DCs don't get presents from many people at all - jammies from FIL, a couple of tiny bits from DSCs. Other than that it's all down to us to choose

Llareggub · 17/11/2013 20:30

I'm really struggling as my 4 year old has a 7 year old big brother so we already have most any boy could possibly want! There are some good ideas here.

I have absolutely no idea what to get. He tells me he just wants Fireman Sam stuff.

If I had the cash then they would get more. I enjoy spoiling them and they are appreciative. I get a buzz seeing their faces light up at things though so I do tend to go a bit overboard. I only listed a few bits of DS's presents but the majority were bought at huge discounts.

MarthasHarbour · 18/11/2013 12:07

I wasnt passing comment on any DC's manners or personality, I wouldnt dream of it Hmm. It is just a personal view of mine that some DC's get soooo much stuff for Christmas.

Its a practical thing more than anything. DS still likes to play with his old toys (cars and planes, plastic tat etc) but will also play with age appropriate toys. We are fast running out of storage, and with another on the way it is only going to be in duplicate. i-also have those annoying friends who take photos and display them on FB of all the toys they have bought their DCs Grin

Quenelle · 18/11/2013 12:27

DS will be 4.6yo at Christmas. He's getting:

Lightsabre
Dressing gown
Superhero PJs
Slippers
Spiderman battery op toothbrush
Hotwheels track set (one that's MN recommended not to be crap)
Solar System first reading books

And either the Imaginext Batcave or the Castle. Can't decide which. I say castle DH says batcave. We will have to decide with an arm wrestle or something.

KatoPotato · 18/11/2013 12:32

DS will be 4 in January.

For Christmas:

From Santa:
Soft Toy Abney, Teal and Neep

From Us:
Alphablocks books with tiles
Cars 'Squinkies' gumball machine - bargain

Granny:
Ozbozz Scooter

Oher Granny and Papa:
PLaymobil Cargo Ship and Loading crane terminal

IHeartKingThistle · 18/11/2013 12:43

Quenelle which HotWheels track is not crap? This could be useful information!

Quenelle · 18/11/2013 12:57

KingThistle Everything I know about Hotwheels I read on this thread.

We're going to get Elimination Race.

peachypips · 18/11/2013 12:57

Our kids don't get loads either, we just don't have the money and I refuse to get in debt. They are 5.10 and 3.3.

Ours are having a small trampoline to share, and stockings full of things from the Range. They were a pound each, and had some really cool things like a mini lockable safe, some massive glasses, a harmonica, some finger lights etc.

They will have PJs on Christmas Eve with marshmallows to toast in the woodburner.

My mum is buying the playmobil dinosaur volcano for them to share, and they will get some bits from other family members. I find that they are happy with a few things and always play well with what they have.

The best things we have for our boys are lego, Duplo and Playmobil vehicles.

Quenelle · 18/11/2013 13:00

Kryptonite I'm so excited to learn the Lego Batman movie has been released in the UK! But after googling I'm a bit puzzled about which version is the normal UK one. Where did you buy it?

Kyrptonite · 18/11/2013 13:37

Tesco. It's the lego batman and super friends movie. Run time is an hour or so. £5 for DVD £8 for blu ray with lego mini fig

Quenelle · 18/11/2013 13:52

Thank you. Looks like it's instore only so will have to pay a visit.

amyboo · 18/11/2013 13:59

Wow. I'm also quite surprised how much some 4 yo's are getting for Christmas. But, I guess up to each person what/how much they buy for their kids.

DS1 (almost 4) is very much a kid who plays with the same toys over and over, so we don't get him that much as there's just no point - he would only play with 2/3 things anyway. This year he's getting:
Lego - fun with vehicles set and digger/dumper truck set
Mack (lorry from Cars)
A JCB digger
Octonauts book and jigsaw
Planes DVD and jigsaw
Some new books

  • only the Octonauts stuff and planes DVD is from us, the rest will be bought by family. I guess there'll be some small stocking fillers too. We really wanted to buy him a garage for all his cars, but can't find any decent ones, so if anyone has any suggestions?
KatoPotato · 18/11/2013 14:02

Oh will Planes be out on DVD?

amyboo · 18/11/2013 14:07

Well, I've seen promo stuff for it coming out here (Belgium), so I'm guessing it should be out in the UK before Christmas too...

ArbitraryUsername · 18/11/2013 14:08

I think, having had a look through this thread that DS2 (4) will be getting:

Playmobil dinosaur stuff
Lego (probably something star warsy)
Craft stuff (because he's obsessed)
Books
Pokemon toys

I'll probably end up delegating some of that to grandparents, who always ask what he'd like. And then I will be left wondering what we should get him because I told them to get the exciting stuff.

Artandco · 18/11/2013 14:15

A bigger bike ( first one is too small)

And he wants bouncing feet??!?! A pogo stick? Will prob get some of those stilt walkers with rope to walk on as he wouldn't be able to use something like a pogo stick yet!

I managed to get the bat cave from Amazon for £20 which I'm very pleased about.

I like the idea of first reading books too.

OP posts:
Beehatch · 22/11/2013 14:37

Mine is getting:
Stocking with Poundshop bits and pieces
Hot wheels track (only thing he's asked for, hope it isn't as crap as reviews on here seen to state)
Electric circuit set (press studs to connect the components, he'll love it)
Playmobil police car

He'll also get some presents from family jointly with his sister, garden toys or board games probably.
