Architecture/Buildings book - nice pictures?

No1 son - age 13 - is interested in art & design, architecture, engineering and minecraft. He also likes watching things like George Clarke's amazing spaces or whatever it is called and Grand designs, that sort of thing.

I thought a nice book with pictures /blurb about interesting buildings would go down a treat for Christmas. He took loads of pictures of Westminster Abbey on a trip to London with the intention of duplicating it in Minecraft but managed to accidentally delete them. But really any type of buildings would be good.

Anyone have any inspired ideas? This is an extra so probably don't want to go above £20ish.

My DH who loves tall buildings, has asked for a book called 1001 buildings you must see before you die. It's on book people for £16

Have you seen these, it'sLego architecture, it's not a book (obviously) it's Lego, but it might be right up your son's street.

Not a book but lego do an architecture range. Is 10+ and looks quite complex. Just bought my DS one

Hah cross posts... I just bought DH one (who at 36 is still obsessed with lego) and loves architecture.

Ooh just seem that book is only £10 on amazon! And the lego architecture is fab. We have Empire State Building.

Ha ha Hector - you must have been seconds quicker than me.:-)

You might find something interesting on RIBA Bookshop
RIBA = Royal Institute of British Architects

Ignore the hardcore stuff and there are some really interesting books

Lots of famous architects books Here and here
100 Contemporary Architects - taschen books are always beautiful.
50 Architects you should know

A selection of general interest books Here

There are also various architecture theme gifts here

Hope that helps

Forgot to say they also do a Children's section which might be a bit babyish but my DS has Iggy Peck Architect from it - which I he loves.

Aww thanks everyone - some great suggestions which I will note as I am too impatient and ended up ordering some books yesterday.

However I did order 1001 buildings to see before you die :o

I also ordered the DK great buildings book:

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1405375701/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and

101 things I learned in architecture school:

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0262062666/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i03?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hopefully there will be something in those that will float his boat.

I've looked at the lego architecture before but resisted due to the enormous amounts of lego we already have, but I might look again....

we are going to see the "Brick City" exhibition soon so might think about it after that. He is due his school report out in a couple of weeks so if it's as good as previous ones then he might be up for a reward and that might just fit the bill - thanks again.

Thanks especially to wonky that was a lot of work you put in there. I'm going to have a browse through and see if there is anything else that I think he may like....he's a good boy :)

I bought my 11 year old the Lego Brick City book from TBP - really interesting. We also have pop up Frank Lloyd Wright book - amazing for children and adults alike.
