My dd loves taking photos on my phone and on the camera at nursery so I'm thinking her 'main' present could be a camera. Is this a crap idea? Should I buy a kids one? Or a cheap chunky digital?

We've bought a playskool showcam for dd who will be 2yrs 8mnths. Its a kids one with a projector, would link but on my phone so can't. Not used it yet of course but hoping she will love it!

Disclaimer: im not a parent!

Can you get her a 'normal' one? She'll learn how to use it relatively quickly if my nephews and nieces are anything to go by!!

Yeah I'm thinking of just a normal one but like the projector on the kids one

Won't a normal one break if she drops it though?

I'd go for a kids' one at that age. although bear in mind that might not be as appealing as your phone cause you know, it's not yours Grin

DS is 5yrs and getting a kiddizoom twist this xmas cos he's not the careful sort Grin but I'm thinking that will tie him over a year or two and then by about 7yrs a cheap digital will be fine and DD who is currently 2.5yrs can upgrade from super cheap buzz lightyear digital thingy to this kiddizoom.

No way a normal digital cameral would last either of my children more than a few weeks plus I don't think its fair to put that pressure on them knowing I'd be stressy at them to take care of the camera. Deinitely true they will learn quickly how to use it, its just the long term remembering not to drop it / fight over it / poke fingers into lens shutter / see what happens if you hold down all the buttons for as long as you can

I've bought a kiddy camera (vtech?) before and the picture quality was terrible and when the battery ran out it erased all the pictures (despite the instructions saying this wouldn't happen).

My kids now use my normal point-and-shoot, youngest is 2. It has been dropped many times, and I keep cleaning finger prints off the lens, but it still works great. Would you consider a second hand robust camera? I know they do some adult "drop proof, splash proof" cameras. If my normal camera has survived a year plus of abuse, surely one of those should be good.

And some of the photos aren't bad - my 5 yo has documented me bf-ing DD2 quite well!

She seems to be good when trusted with the nursery camera so thinking a cheap one might be ok. Yeah would totally consider a second hand one
