My 12 year old loves One Piece Pirate Warriors and most Manga/Anime stuff. I spotted a pack of One Piece playing cards and sent off for them, they came all the way from Singapore and I stashed them away.

Today, he lost something under the tv stand, so we manhandled it out the way and found the thing he was after and 10 tons of other crap and a bloody packet of One Piece playing cards!!! :(

Oh well, better knowing now than when he opens his stocking on Christmas morning!

ebay them?? if they came from Singapore there might be some rarity value.

Pancakeflipper · 11/11/2013 22:57

What you need is a Christmas spreadsheet with a worksheet hidden for family members.

He might lose one by Christmas Day.

Same thing here. DD1 wants Guess Who, has been badgering to play it for ages. So I bought it. Cleared out the understairs cupboard at the weekend and there is my Guess Who neatly sitting there with the Trivial Pursuit. And mine is an older (although pristine) one so better quality. Bugger.

soontobeslendergirl · 11/11/2013 23:05

yup - I will sell them on okay - no point keeping them as he has clearly taken such good care of the other set!!

Spreadsheet a good idea but wouldn't have helped, I think he must have bought them months ago when we were at a convention.

and yes gwendoline it is frustrating. On the other hand, my OH went and bought a new box of Scrabble purely because he couldn't be bothered going into the attic to get the one we already own down. Hmm

Envy at your proper Guess Who Gwendoline, I remember mine fondly. The newfangled versions are all absolutely shit. Who the hell is in charge, and have they ever tried to actually play the flimsy crappy excuse for what they apparently now call a 'game'? All the doors close if you so much as fast near it, and they are so close together that you can't even see the characters (also partly because they've shrunk by about 75%) without squinting and getting really close to the board, by which time of course you've brushed all the fucking doors shut with your eyelashes.
Rage.

Ahem. Apologies for going somewhat off topic OP Blush

Ha ha, no problem - I love a bit of Guess Who rage of a morning :o

They just don't make stuff like they used to!!

or you could suggest that he donates the pack to one of the Christmas toy charities - he is a perfect age to learn about giving to people who don't have much. Probably less hassle than ebay

soontobeslendergirl · 12/11/2013 12:13

Why would you assume that he isn't aware of giving to people who don't have much 3bunnies?

It would also be a bit strange for me to suggest he donates the pack he owns and then present him with another pack at Christmas, or was I to suggest he donates the pack he doesn't know I've bought?

I could donate it but he then wouldn't learn anything would he?

We already regularly donate to charity and the boys sponsor a child too. I usually donate a toy or two to the local charity at Christmas, but these cards wouldn't necessarily be suitable. Unless the recipient was "into" this particular Manga characters, they would be of no more interest than an ordinary pack of cards that can be bought for less than a pound.

They are essentially a collectors item.

I'm sorry I really didn't mean any offence - maybe it's just me who hates the hassle of ebay. I just thought that as he enjoys his pack he might enjoy giving one to someone else. Ironically one of the presents ours are giving is guess who because they love playing it and it will be nice for them to think of another child enjoying it too. I'm sorry if I've upset you.

soontobeslendergirl · 12/11/2013 13:09

I'm not upset 3bunnies, I just see charity donating as a private thing ............ and I also don't like being told what to do :o

I also think that at 12 he should already be well aware that he is in a very fortunate position. My OH and I both come from a very poor background and understand what it is like to go without.
