Ok, usually our xmas is spent with my family. Routine is kids get us up, open presents, breakfast bit of a play then off to a sibling/parents house where we stay for xmas lunch and tea.

This year however me and dh have decided to stay at home only going to my sisters for tea.

Please help me compile a list of what i need as usually we just bring a dish for xmas dinner (eg, roasties/veg/pudding etc)

Im very excited but also nervous!!!

Basically for a Christmas lunch, you decide on meat, veg and accompaniments; and pudding. You will need drinks, and things like cream to go with pud; and stuff like cranberry sauce to go with lunch.

You may decide to buy ready prepared things from M&S or other supermarkets, or do a mixture of these and your own veg. Or you could choose to have something completely different from the traditional meal. For your first time, don't try to do too many types of veg and keep it simple.

Don't be nervous, it's just a glorified roast! The way to plan the meal is work backwards from the time you want to eat, so that if something takes e.g. 40 mins like roast potatoes (10 mins part boiling 30 mins roasting) you count back 40 mins so that you know when to start them cooking. You can write up a timings chart so that you know when to start each item to have them ready at the same time.

Surely you must know what you have eaten every Christmas?

What ever you want if you don't want a full dinner don't do it!

Try not to panic and remember you don't have to go traditional if you don't want to.

As girlywhirly said it's just a roast with a few extras. Think your way through what you want on the plate including sauces etc. and don't attempt to make everything from scratch (unless you really want to).

Keep it simple and don't attempt to many complicated side dishes and you'll be fine.

Don't forget something quick and easy for breakfast!

Just enjoy!Smile
