Help me with a very tricky gift for DSS (21)?

Hi, I'm looking for a gift for my DSS who is 21, DD'S has had a thought couple of years and has finely been placed in a mental health unit ( after being messed around for 2 years by mental health services ), at the moment he feels he can not see dh so we have hardly seen him for 6 months, we are very proud that he is trying to sort his life out by agreeing to be where he is, at the moment he has limited control of his money, we don't want to give him cash as he would not spend it wisely.

Any ideas what we can get him for around £25 that maybe useful to him?

He likes football, gaming and music ( but I don't want to get him a voucher ).

Meant to say ' had a tough couple of years ' ( silly iPad).

That's a shame but hoepfully things will be on the up for him soon.

Is there a particular band that he likes that you could get a t-shirt or something for?

Does he have access to an ipod/gaming device that you could get him a download or game for?

Does he read, my boys although a lot younger really liked the Gamers edition of the Guiness book of records (and the normal edition for that matter)

Or could you get him a subscripton to a gaming or music magazine to fit with his console or interests?

I'm not 100% sure what he likes as he has changed so much since being poorly Sad, I think he has a iPod and I think dh said he had just bought a PSP ( he was allowed to buy a tv and a console to keep him busy in the unit ), he came to our house last Christmas and was listening to pop music with dd2 but I think he likes most music. We are hoping he will come over on Boxing Day but at the moment it's not looking very likely as he won't even speak to us ( we had to be quite tough on him to get him the help he needed, hopefully one day he will realise why we did it ). I might do him a little food hamper to take back with him too.

I'm sure the hamper with some treats in it will be appreciated and you could maybe pop an itunes voucher in with it, lots of places doing £15 vouchers for £12 at the moment and then he can download music or apps to play. Maybe pop in a couple of magazines, some toiletries and a nice t-shirt? quertee.com do some really funky unusual ones that might fit the bill. Maybe your daughters will have some ideas of what he might like?

Treats hamper sounds great, how about some nice headphones (cordless maybe), and a photo in a frame of him and his family? Hope happier times are on the way for him.

Isthiscorrect · 09/11/2013 07:41

I couldnt find quertee.com sadly. It just linked to a list of other sites? Is that right?

Trumpton · 09/11/2013 07:42

My boy was not allowed any chargers or wired headphones when he was in the unit so cordless headphones sound a good idea.
We moved our Ds into a new flat last month and he seems to coping. It's horrible when they cut you off but he has come back to us. I send you best wishes.

Marne · 09/11/2013 08:30

Thank you for the great ideas, I think we will do him a hamper with a t shirt, iTunes voucher and some nice treats.

Thank you Trumpton, glad your ds is doing well, we are hoping DSS will be housed in a flat when he leaves, we have been told he could be in the unit for up to 2 years depending on how things go ( if the diagnose him and get is treatment right ).
