Both dcs are getting a samsung tablet for christmas....this is ALOT more than I would usually spend on a main prezzie but they are on offer for £99 and I have a lot of nectar points saved up. They are only 5 and 6 so like I say its a massive extravigance.....we dont have a computer or laptop or any games consoles so I think its important for them to have access to the internet/technology. They need it for homework etc.

I'm thinking because they are having such a big prezzie to just get them a stocking each and maybe one little £5 prezzie to open. Is this stingy? I just want to scale things right back. They always end up with a bedroom full of crap and nowhere to put it all. I would rather this year we took it back to basics and focused on what christmas is really about.....not millions of presents.

Sounds totally reasonable to me. In fact, I wouldn't bother with the £5 present if they're opening a tablet on Xmas morning.

Not stingy at all. Sounds very generous. More than many other children will receive.

LittleMissGreen · 06/11/2013 00:01

Not at all stingy. My boys will get a stocking, a 'big' present from Father Christmas (circa £10-£15), a 'big' present from me and DH (circa £20), and a small present on the Christmas tree at tea time (circa £5). Then they will have 5 presents in the afternoon from relatives.

Could you possibly wrap up some things they need anyway so they have more to open? Things like clothes or bedding, a favourite food etc?

SpookedMackerel · 06/11/2013 08:11

Sounds fine to me - mine will only have one present from us, plus a stocking - though I usually spend a fair bit on the stocking - and a present from each other.

You know your children and I'd they are going to be thrilled to pieces with tablet which I'm sure they will be then it isn't a problem. I find that when I buy an expensive gift I buy a lot of little stuff to bulk out presents and they are wasted. usually given to the summer fair unopened. like pp said could you wrap up some bedding or clothes/new toothbrush pjs or such if you feel the present pile is lacking

They always get a new pair of jim jams on christmas eve and their stockings will be full of chocolate, little nick nacks that they are always pleased to recieve. I always buy them nice pants at xmas too.....character ones rather than bog standard asda value.
I have also bought them an electric toothbrush each. I don't want them to be spoilt with things they don't need but in previous years I have had more money and could spend more. This year Im not willing to wrack up debt for the sake of christmas.

Ds is getting quite a big gift from my mum too which I know he will be thrilled with.

Its been a really shit year and they have been so amazing. They deserve the world but unfortunatly I can only give them what I can afford. Im hoping to do lots of crafts with them over christmas and really make a fuss of the festivities rather than focus on presents. I hope they understand that.
