Dolls house recommendation - Rosebud ELC?

DD is nearly 5 and I want one that she will ideally play with for a few years. I have got a voucher for ELC and the Rosebud one looks nice but the furniture is so expensive! Does anyone know if it is nice and worth the money? Or is there another nicer and ideally cheaper one out there? I have looked at the GLTC one too which looks nice but I can't tell if the attic opens up or not. TIA!

I've just bought the GLTC doll's house and wondered the same thing! In fact, the photo doesn't show the attic but in the blurb it says the roof opens. At least, there are six rooms so I take it to mean that includes the attic.

I hummed and hawed for a long time but I bought it from GLTC as there was a 15% off code, and I couldn't find a code for the Rosebud one.

I will definitely be more excited than my DDs when they open it on Christmas Day.....

Are you happy with the EmGee? Have you bought the furniture as well? I have got a 25% code for ELC and a 15 % code for GLTC. Decisions, decisions.

We have the rosebud ELC one. It was purchased over 5 years ago for dd1. It has now been passed to dd2 so well worth the money and is in very good condition still

Oooh thanks, Loolah. I am baulking at the cost of all the little furniture but there isn't much in it price wise between GLTC and ELC.

My DD (3.5) has the GLTC one. The roof sections lift off entirely or you can flip one over on top of the back section. It's all quite robust and is standing up well to a bit of door slamming and introduction of far too big toys into it.
Only one of the pieces of furniture has gotten damaged and it's glued back together as good as new.
Oh - the starter pack is all you need really. It fills it nicely leaving space for some dolls.

Thanks, OscarWilde.

I have bought the asda one (half price) £35 for dd birthday next week. Looks nice in the shop, quite large, had been looking at the rosebud one before that.

Retropear · 05/11/2013 17:40

My dd 8 uses her Sylvanian furniture in her Rosebud House.

Retropear · 05/11/2013 17:41

I'm sure Le Toy Van make the ELC one.

YomAsalYomBasal · 05/11/2013 17:46

We were gifted some of the rosebud stuff. It's hideous as everything is bright pink and some items of furniture are not very robust and have ended up in the bin. Much prefer Pintoy.

Retropear · 05/11/2013 17:52

My dd had it at 3 and is nearly 9, nothing has broken.

YomAsalYomBasal · 05/11/2013 18:58

Retro pear - unfortunately the quality has declined in recent years.

At 5 years old I'd not bother with a wooden house and chunky doll figures to be honest. I'd go with a Lundby (real working lights!) or Dolls House Emporium (ditto) or Sylvanian Families. More fiddly and 'real' with lots of accessories you can add to. I find the wooden ones are popular aged 3-5 and the others 6 onwards.

Toys r us have a good range of dolls houses and there is one that is £49.99 with furniture included.

I ordered the wooden Victorian ladybird one from Littlewoods for my little girl. They do the house with furniture, the basement, garage with car and an extra people and furniture set. Looks lovely:)
On special at the moment, house itself normally £62 I think, now 25% off everything plus an extra £41 is you order all the bits. Totalled £67 I think for the lot Smile

Freddie - that is my concern. I have thought about Sylvanians but they are so expensive that I am not sure I want to start her off on them Grin My other option is a new micro scooter but I thought a dolls house might have a bit more Christmas 'wow'!

reddaisy- I wold get the basic house, lighting, and a room set and figures then you or the family can add to it. The Lundby houses are 'wow' -much more than Sylvanians and you can get the Stockholm (with swimming pool!) or Smaland house for £69.99 from Amazon and Kidsen. I just think they have more longevity than the wooden houses.
