board/card games specifically for young children - recommendations

Lots of threads on family board games but I usually like to get some that are easier for my DCs, who are 4 (DS - has a speech disorder so a little behind, although joins in pretty well now) and 6 (DD)

This year DD is getting Monsters University Top Trumps in her stocking (got it cheaper in a toy shop though!) - she's not played any TT before but I think she will like this one especially as they have 'scare card' type things in the film. Might provide a little numeracy practice too.

Considering Brainbox Art too, she is a bit young but has really got into art this year (topic last term) and might enjoy the observation/memory aspect of it.

For DS I was thinking of Dr Seuss I can do that game - both DC are really into Seuss, and it seems like something DS could participate in and also might inject a bit of silliness into the day!

From last year I highly recommend Animal Upon Animal - we all enjoy it. Requires patience and dexterity though. I'd love to get some of the other sets to add more animals but they are really pricey.

Any other recommendations? What are you getting for your DCs?

Have a look at Orchard Toys, they have lots of good games that suit from about 3 years old upwards. My DCs are 7 and 9 now, but we still enjoy Greedy Gorillas, Tummy Ache, Wild World Lotto, Shopping List, Pop to the Shops.

I second orchard toys, really good age wise - favourites include three little pigs and busy little bees.

Connect four has been a favourite and I'm buying guess who for Christmas.

Have you thought of card games like snap, happy families?

Frustration is one of top favourites as there is an element of chance so works across ages.

Ooh I've not heard of the busy little bees game. I'm a bit of an Orchard Toys addict TBH Blush I often pick them up in my local charity shop. I found an old version of Tummy Ache that was the exact one I had as a child!

We don't have any snap cards come to think of it, we have a memory game from the Tate which is fantastic (again bought due to DD's new love of art) but only two of each picture (snap is better with 4 of each I think due to increased likelihood of pairs?)
