E-readers

DS1 (11) has requested an e-reader for Christmas. DS2 (9) had a Kindle for his birthday this year and DS1 borrowed it to go on a long train journey this half term and fell in love. I'm all for encouraging reading Grin but I can't afford a Kindle for him as well as the Lego etc that he has requested. So I am looking at cheaper options.

I have a Nook, which I bought when they first went down to £29.99. I prefer the Nook to DS2's Kindle TBH. However they seem to be really hard to get hold of at the moment, everywhere is out of stock and it doesn't look hopeful that they will be back in before Christmas.

I have then been looking at the Kobo Mini. Does anyone know what they are like? Or does anyone have any other suggestions for e-readers at around the £30 price range?

It might be obvious but does your DS have a smart phone/ iPod etc? If so the kindle app is free and (assuming your DS has fairly decent eyesight) it's as easy to use (if not more so) than the basic kindle.
I use my iPhone kindle app all the time while I am waiting about for DS after school, clubs etc. :)

We are getting DS (9) the kobo mini for Christmas.

DH and I both have Sony PRS T2 and after DS taking 13 books on holiday for 2 weeks we thought it was time, but he I only 9 and a bit careless so we want a cheap option.

We bought our ds2 (9) a Kobo mini for his birthday last month and it has been brilliant. I have a Kindle so was hesitant about going for the Kobo but to be honest it has worked brilliantly. We like the fact that the books are separate to the Kindle books and have in fact bought two more Kobos for ds1 and dd as Christmas presents. There are some fun features such as little awards for reading which he really likes.

BIl has a kobo and loves it. He says it's just as good as a kindle

Thanks all.

No, he doesn't have a smart phone. He is still in primary school and only has a really cheap PAYG phone for use in emergencies.

It looks like the Kobo Mini is a good plan then.
