Friends' children

What sort of stuff do you buy your friends' kids, if at all?

We only buy for our closest, who have two boys 11 and 7 yo, and every year I'm stuck.

They have every toy or game on earth and if asked they ask for something at more than I'd like to spend. So I end up getting books, which I like but never sure they do...

Lego kits?
A game they could share (if they have a Wii or XBox)?
A board game?

CMOTDibbler · 03/11/2013 16:15

I'd just buy them a choc selection box.

We only buy for one child, and we know her so well its easy to find something

With god children i ask their mother until teens and the give cash or a voucher.

SugarplumKate · 03/11/2013 16:35

Cinema voucher, bowling voucher or lego/board game/wii or play station game to share.

I buy for my god / guide children. There's 5 of them that I buy for, and I tend to spend £10 - £15 on each child.

The teenager usually gets a voucher of some description. The others, I ask the parents for ideas of suitable presents.

BeaWheesht · 03/11/2013 18:50

I only buy for 2 of my friends kids - one is a baby so is getting a book and one is a 7 year old boy. This year he is getting battleships game.

My own ds is almost 7 and would appreciate:

Anything army related - you could buy a camo net, tarpaulin and torch to make a den kit for him?? Not that expensive on likes of amazon.
Anything football related
Drawing things
Lego

Stevie77 · 03/11/2013 23:20

Thanks everyone, some suggestions they have i.e. every Lego kit imaginable, DVD etc. but some great ideas here nonetheless - thanks!

I've bought this for my own ds - you could buy it for either / both of them with a couple of related products?

Are the in Cubs/Scouts? The iScout range has nice hoodies, neck warmers, water bottles etc. that are handy for camp/skate parks/out and about.

Or if they take part in any sports/martial arts, you could Google 'X accessories'; I've tried it and discovered things I never knew existed, but that make good gifts.

shoppingbagsundereyes · 04/11/2013 07:37

Why don't you discuss with your friends doing something together instead. A trip to the cinema, bowling, pizza? I'd far rather do this than add to the endless pointless gift swap.

Suzietwo · 04/11/2013 08:11

I buy my god daughter a christmas decoration each year. So when she leaves home she will have her own selection.

hermioneweasley · 04/11/2013 08:17

Amazon had a special on Lego board games yesterday. Don't know if there might be something there they don't have?
