Glockenspiel or xylophone?

I think that my 6YO DD would love a non toy xylophone but upon searching I've come across a Glockenspiel. What is the difference and which one should I get? Budget no more than £50. Many thanks.

Yes a xylophone is made of wood, glockenspiel is metal.

We bought dd a glockenspiel last year. It's got more than one octave so you can actually play tunes on it. I'll look at the box later to see who made it.

The glockenspiel I have is made by House of Marbles.

I think that a xylophone is far easier on parental ears.

Wow. I always thought it was the other way around and that glockenspiels were wooden! You learn something new every day!

I'm looking at getting a xylophone for dd2, wooden sounds much better than metal.

Aren't xylophones enormously expensive?

I was inspired by seeing Steve Reich's music performed a while back, and had visions of us becoming an insanely creative family (Osmonds/Von Trapp - but cooler) and was very disappointed when I encountered the fiscal obstacle to my dreams.

Wood does sound more appealing than metal that's for sure....

They are expensive Sad I think we will just go for a good children's xylophone ( for around £20 ) as your looking at £100+ for a decent one.
