Toy Airplane for 5 yr old?

DD1 has said she would like a toy airplane - not sure where this has come from, she also mentioned it back in Sept around her birthday so I think she does really want one.

Anyone know a good one? The playmobil one is expensive and has pretty rubbish reviews.

What about the Disney pixar film "planes" toys

soontobeslendergirl · 31/10/2013 08:04

The duplo one is brilliant. Every child who has ever been in our house made a bee-line for it.

fuzzpig · 31/10/2013 08:30

Yes I've heard the playmobil ones keep falling apart - surprising as usually playmobil is brilliant but maybe it's just not suited to that kind of play (ie picking it up a lot rather than it being on the floor like a castle)

I will be getting a diecast plane or two from the Pixar movie - they are small though. Do you think she means any toy plane or specifically a big one that toy people can fit in?

We have bought a Disney 'Planes' RC toy. I'm not sure how good it is, looks a bit gimmicky to be honest - I'm hoping someone will tell me it's great.

Lego City have fabulous planes though. And airports too, we are huge lego fans just because it is utterly unbreakable. the fact that they work with all other Lego, and minifigs, makes them such good value for money. The children really love them.

This one is good and very sturdy here also available in pink. Also this is good and big here although pricey.
More here and I have got this for ds this not sure if it's any good.

Brockle · 31/10/2013 10:45

we have the duplo cargo plane which is great.

Doitnicelyplease · 31/10/2013 17:16

Thanks for the replies. I tried finding out more about what 'type' of plane this morning, I asked her how big and she showed me about 8-10 inches so I am wondering if it is a die-cast model type plane she is thinking of - not sure how she invisions playing with this, with no people etc?

We used to have the little people one when she was younger and it didn't get played with much, she would think it was babyish now.

I do love the new playmobil cargo/passenger one but it is so expensive I need to know this is what she wants, before seeing if any kind relatives want to buy it for her...

Will also look into the duplo one, as we have lots of Duplo and it does get played with (unlike the Playmobil sadly!).

I don't like any of the planes from Planes movie, they look a bit rubbish.

Off to follow up on leads...
thanks again :)

There are some disney planes Duplo sets available...maybe this would suit if she loves Duplo? Some on tesco club card boost too!

fuzzpig · 31/10/2013 17:22

not sure how she invisions playing with this, with no people etc?

I would imagine it would involve holding it out and running around madly going nnnnnyyyyyyyyaaaawwwwww :o

Doitnicelyplease · 31/10/2013 17:24

Ok so just seen the Lego Duplo Legoville Airport set which looks excellent, but I think it is unavailable now :( - Amazon is selling it for 500 pounds Hmm

Anyone seen it for sale?
Also like the cargo plane, but not sure it looks right for what DD wants.

we also have a small red duplo train that u can put one duplo person in. that is probably the right size.

Brockle · 31/10/2013 17:26

sorry plane not train! Blush Blush

fuzzpig · 31/10/2013 17:30

If it is unavailable I would assume that means it's no longer being produced. When they retire a set the price rockets :(

You could maybe check the official lego site (and playmobil if that's still a possibility) to see exactly what sets are currently around - write down the model numbers and then look up other sites prices/reviews etc using those.

17leftfeet · 31/10/2013 17:35

Slightly off topic but is there a difference between an airplane and an aeroplane?

Sorry, not being a pedant, genuine question?

SpookedMackerel · 31/10/2013 17:50

One of Dd's friends has a little Lego seaplane that dd didn't want to stop playing with last time she was at her house. I think it was a Lego Friends one, judging from the little figure flying it.
