Hi

I'm looking for some of you lovely ladies to help me with some ideas for Christmas present for my wife. She is just the wrong side of the big 5 oh, and enjoys making cards, beading, but have done that in previous years, so looking for an 'original' ideas

Thanks in advance

I'd like a picnic hamper, with Pimms inside. And maybe some champagne. You get the theme.

I suggest the OP asks his wife. I really am not keen on getting a surprise from my DH. I usually email him a link to what I want. Somehow though he usually ignores it and gets me something else. Hmm

bloodied and line DH got me a picnic basket for my birthday last year it is lovely. Then on Mother's Day he helped the kids to do an indoor picnic which was actually afternoon tea as they made scones and cake ect. It was on a picnic rug in our conservatory they even had bird music and flowers.
The picnic basket is from John Lewis and has 2 carry handles.

I'm with the organised night out/ weekend away.
One year for my birthday (before children, sigh) he TOTALLY surprised me for my birthday with a trip to London. Shopping, dinner, theatre. Had the best day. Now not possible as he wouldn't arrange someone to look after DDs (only my parents could be asked, they lice 2 hours away so.he wouldn't).

So OP if your wife is like many of us we just buy what we need. Surprise her with something she wouldn't buy......theatre tickets, weekend away, posh dinner out, spa day. National Trust membership with the promise of going with her for several nice days out over the year.......it doesn't have to be a thing, i find experiences I wouldn't get otherwise better.

On the thin hope this might be my DH (not likely in October...or November) a week at Centre Parcs with the just our kids would be great. Tickets could be tucked in a good book. Decorating the book wrapping could be a lovely little box containing beautiful jewelery. Something gold or platinum. We're only doing one present each this year and Im already resigned to getting something jokey (which would be better than the car I had to give back after a couple of months last year).

Go on, get her a comedy onesey OP and I'll keep he company having a moan on here Christmas afternoon, when you're having a snooze!

I'm just rubbish at linking! I think I appreciated his sentiment (and, yes, bonus points for Christmas shopping in October - that really is true dedication!!)

Still think she might need a festive goat - how could that be wrong?

Like Splatt said....despite the fact that, if asked what we wanted, we'd probably say something v practical for around the house or directly linked to our hobbies etc...I think the best presents are the really indulgent surprise ones - the stuff you would never ever 'waste' money buying yourself but are just lovely to have.

That's often girlie stuff. Or romantic.

Beautiful jewellery (but she might find this OTT indulgent, especially if she doesn't really wear any?)

A lovely jumper or coat in luxurious materials ...something that feels super soft & would be lovely to wear

If you have children who don't live too far away, how about a family photo shoot for all of you with a framed picture for the wall?

A proper old traditional hamper. But not one pre-bought filled with stuff...fill it up with lots of personal things & little treats. Her favourite foods & drinks, little trinkets, a book by her favourite author etc... You get the idea.

Failing that, a festive goat is clearly the way forward.

Oooh some great ideas here. I also second the indulgent surprise that you wouldn't ask for, if you have the cash. Frankly, I buy my own craft stuff if and when I 'need' it and wouldn't really want presents of it or trust dh with it. Saying that, last year I got pyjamas (which I needed).

Maybe it would just be easier if we all posted what we would like and he could see if something jumps out at him - there should be a cross section of interests and incomes on here so if we post something that our partners could realistically afford to buy that would make most sense. i.e. I'd love a trip to New York but that isn't in our income bracket so i'm going to say:

A piece of Danon jewellry
A couple of novels
A bottle of perfume
some new leather gloves
A dvd/cd
A new winter jacket
A bottle of booze

any of the above would be great :o

Oh that's nice! I scrolled down and saw a pewter one with two hearts as well which is nice. Have never heard of Danon before.

I really like their stuff bloodied, it has a good solid weight to it too and relatively inexpensive - makes great leaving/special birthday presents etc for colleagues - well female ones anyway :o

Has OP been back after starting this thread?

In an ideal world (lol) i'd like any of the below:

A Joules dressing gown
A Mulberry bag (wouldn't we all :p)
Swarovski jewellery
A full house deep clean :)
Real mohair throws for the bed / lounge
A French bulldog
The latest collection of Booker Prize short listed titles

You can bet I won't be getting any of the above :)

Wow thanks. Lots of good ideas, as I originally said, over the previous 30 years done all the usual, jewellery, cloths, shoes, trips, meals, watches, etc. I have asked her, & she as usual doesn't know!

So was looking for original ideas, looking to spend up to £100 ish.......she normally buys her own main present, so this is just something from my own very limited money, not our joint account
