Ds will be 4 on Christmas Eve which means I need birthday and Christmas presents, also stuff for a few other relatives to buy, the problem is we have ds who is 7 and most of his toys, and I seem to have run out of ideas - feeling very brain dead although that could be the Wine, and not much sleep as the younger has tonsilitis. Anyway could you please tell me what you would buy a 4 year old boy or girl, am desperate and tired.

DS is getting octonauts stuff, a couple of sets of books from the book people (15% off today), some simple board games, duplo kits, Thomas the tank engine stuff, and some craft things. What is your DS into?

peanutbuttersarnies · 29/10/2013 18:33

I am assuming you are looking for more unusual suggestions than lego etc.
Mine has asked for an umbrella. May be something he'd like?

shinybaubles · 29/10/2013 18:40

MyMother - he likes Peppa Pig, and Doc McStuffins, also any cars, planes, paints, he really likes anything his 7 year old brother has. We do have lots of Lego, tons of Thomas ( will give away next week as not played with for a year). we have very many books. He has a scooter and a balance bike.
Peanutbutter - he would love that and keeps asking for one.

For year old are weird....DS2 really, really wanted a £5 lightbaber at that age, and was over the moon when he got it. He would have been equally happy with the £300 peddle tractor he wanted.

Wait till nearer Christmas, and ask him what he wants - then pray you can get hold of it.

10ft Trampoline?
Bike with stablilsers?

What he really, really wants probably costs less than £10 Grin

shinybaubles · 29/10/2013 18:51

Lynette you are so right and he idolises his older brother which doesn't help. They do want a trampoline, was thinking of a bike too, but it's not really something you can open and play with on Christmas day especially if the weather is bad?
He does love tat - and light flashing, noisy plastic tat - Blush

Marble run?

Tuff spot?

Orchard games/puzzles?

Folio book for the future?

Season pass to a centre/park nearby?

Rocker board?

Schliech toys?

Playmobil?

Lego/Duplo?

Wooden railway like Brio?

Bike?

Storysack?

shinybaubles · 29/10/2013 18:57

Wow - stargirl - that's quite a list and most if it we have but thanks for trying, but will have a look at a rocker board and tuff spot - as have no clue what they are.

Tuff spots are large plastic trays to create 'worlds' in. There are loads of brilliant ideas on Pinterest. So you could create a farm world with different material (a playsilk, felt, etc) and natural materials like soil, bark, etc. You then populate with farm animals (Schliech, Holztiger, etc.).

I love making a polar world with a basin of ice frozen in the freezer overnight. White playsilk, deep blue playsilk, white felt and polar animals. The ice lasts all day!

There is a book of Tuff Spot ideas. It's a fab small world concept.

Rocker boards are used to develop core muscle strength in children. The nursery attached to my school use them as toys but I have used them with much older children in a motor skills development group.

I was going to say imaginext, my five year old loves it and we are getting the castle for Xmas. We already gave the boat and submarine, helicopter and batman stuff.

I like the sound of the tuff spots, my younger two would love that.

stargirl1701 · 29/10/2013 19:35

Amazon do sell Tuff Spots.Grin

5madthings · 29/10/2013 19:39

www.amazon.co.uk/Mixing-Spot-Tray-made/dp/B002HIY9JQ

So they do, its a builders tray but all the reviews are parents using them for messy play etc, bargain price!

They also sell books with ideas but you can just Google or look on pinterest etc.

5madthings · 29/10/2013 19:41

We have hundreds f the scheich animals so dd will love creating worlds for them, I can see my older ones enjoying to as well, even with Lego etc.

I might fill one with jelly...

lagoonhaze · 29/10/2013 19:46

kiwidreamer · 29/10/2013 21:46

Star Wars Millennium Falcon from Playskool £27 at debenhams I've got one for my 5yr old. Also the Playskool Marvel Heroes are neat figures if he's in the hero stage. Replenish the Dress up box?
