What gift to 3.1 year old from new baby due at Christmas? Small enough for hospital bag but will give hours of entertainment?

I know it's not completely Christmas related but I figured you are probably the best group to ask! And I am due a week before Christmas!
My ds will be 3.1. I'm looking for a present from the new baby.
It should fit in my bag and ideally be suitable to occupy him without our involvement.
He is really into jigsaws at the moment. So a puzzle or something similar (but maybe with a longer lifespan so he can remember in a year's time its from baby) would be good.
He really doesn't like arty or colouring things or vehicles of any kind.
He also likes roleplay and playmobil.

My DD sounds similar and recieved a fuzzyfelt book for xmas - wouldnt have been expensive (maybe £2-£3) and would probably have come from the works or home bargains!

But kept her busy for hours, putting the fuzzy felts on each different page kind of like a puzzle. and was only A5 size but square IYSWIM.

Good luck :)

DD1 was 3.1 when DD2 was born. We got her a Peppa Pig lucky dip bag type thing from the hospital WH Smith, as DD2 arrived a bit quicker than I was expecting!

Nearly a year later, DD1 still remembers that DD2 gave her the peppa pig stuff. There was a I wish I'd been more organised and got her something really lovely instead of a magazine, but she was happy with it.

Why not get a puzzle, but also a picture frame with 'Big Brother' or something on it, that you can put a pic of the two of them in at a later date?

Inspired by our 3.5 yo DS's insistence that the jumper i'm knitting for him is a Superman jumper (it's definitely not, I am a brand new knitter!) we have bought a gorgeous knitted Superman jumper from Gap. He's due some new warm clothes so this fits the bill for all of us. Grin Grin

Great thank you. Looking up fuzzyfelt now!

We gave ours a doctors kit. It seemed fitting since she met her sister in the hospital. She had a great time looking after me and the baby (closely supervised!) with it. I have pics of her taking her sisters temperature, so cute.

All mine remember from the births of subsequent siblings is the chocolate in the new baby's hospital cot for them despite that being a tiny add on to the carefully thought out bigger gift the baby showed up with.

At 3.1, ds got a talking Buzz Lightyear when dd was born. He got the interactive Woody for Christmas a few weeks later. We watched Toy Story an awful lot when I was expecting dd!

Iwaswatchingthat · 29/10/2013 18:42

Would he do one of those Usbourne sticker books?

My dds would sit and do those for ages and you can get Christmas themed ones.

NannyPlumForPM · 29/10/2013 18:47

That m and s one is the one we got snappy - but it's an ocean/ deep sea one. There's pictures on the left side of what goes on each page so dd spent a good hour and a half matching them all and matching etc

pebbles1234 · 29/10/2013 18:48

Ds got a specific Thomas the tank engine train which he'd wanted for ages, (he is a huge fan) which I'm planning to put in his memory box when (if ever!) he finishes playing with it.

DoItTooJulia · 29/10/2013 18:50

A baby doll? That you can feed and change?

Or an amazeball? Or is it called addictaball?

Or a find it. They're awesome!

BeaWheesht · 29/10/2013 19:06

Ds was 3 when dd was born and she 'got' him a spud lightyear

hippoherostandinghere · 29/10/2013 19:19

DS was 2.3 when DD was born and she brought him a massive mickey mouse teddy. I know its not small enough to fit in a bag but DH kept it in the boot and told DS the new baby had brought it for him when he was bringing him to hospital for the first time.

I thought it would be something he could keep and to this day it still lives on his bed.

Or what about a kiddizoom camera so he can take his own photos of his new baby.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 29/10/2013 19:22

one of those magnadoodle magnetic drawing board thingies

ChaffinchOfDoom · 29/10/2013 19:24

playmobil do those eggs sets too; they do give hours of fun

Hi - I could have posted this OP - DS2 is due on 16th of Dec and DS1 turns 3 next week.

DS has requested his brother bring him "Mr Dinosaur" so we have got him a Rex from Toy Story
However he loves role play too so I will look out for a doctors kit as well which maybe can be added into Christmas pile

YomAsalYomBasal · 30/10/2013 19:16

DD gave DS a Mr Potato Head!

Kathryn2967 · 30/10/2013 19:52

My DS got my dd a kiddizoom camera which was good for keeping her a safe distance away from him. She just enjoying snapping away at first but now a year later 3 1/2 years old is enjoying looking at the photos she's taken.

goonyagoodthing · 30/10/2013 20:54

Something I did when mine were born - put a photo of your older child / children at the head of the babys cot / crib in the hospital so you can tell them you showed the baby the photo and he / she was looking forward to seeing them.

incogKNEEto · 30/10/2013 21:31

what about an Aquadraw? The mat folds up quite small and it can be played with almost anywhere with the added bonus of no mess?

DS bought one for DD2 when he arrived and she loved it! They still play with it now and DS is nearly 5 Smile

cornflakegirl · 30/10/2013 21:35

We did a couple of small cars - DS1 remembers 4 years later.
