My DS has got into watching the old Star Wars films with his dad. I have been looking for Christmas present ideas and as he is just 5 think the Lego sets aren't worth the money! (We already have loads and tend to get broken up or it's me that spends ages building it)! So would like something more like the playmobil stuff or figures that go in a spaceship etc. not sure if playmobil do Star Wars as cant find it anywhere. Advice needed! Thanks in advance

Ds is 6 and has been a big star wars fan for a couple of years. Last Christmas he was given a set of figures, they came from the Early Learning Centre, and he loves them. He got two sets, one with Luke, Darth Vader and C-3PO, and one set for the new films with Anakin and Obi-Wan. The arms move so he re-enacts lots of lightsabre fights. I agree about the lego sets, he won't build them himself and just pulls them apart to build other ships. We did get a couple of lego figures from ebay though, and two years ago we got him a lego advent calendar, which had little bits each day (the highlight was Yoda dressed as Father Christmas).

Ds also got into star wars when he was 5 and started school and is now obsessed. Mostly I have seen angry birds star wars stuff or Lego. I'm afraid we went down the Lego route, and this is what he drools over in the Christmas books. Daddy does help to build it, and it tends to be broken up quite quickly but he gets lots of play out of building his own ships too. Mini figures can go for quite a price on eBay!

Non Lego, I have seen odd packs of figures in the shops, along with lightsabers and masks. To me it seems terribly overpriced for what it is, but then my parents probably said the same thing!

You can also get clothing, bedding, school lunch bags etc for a practical present.

You can get fighter pods but they're very fiddly IMO

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B007C0WC20/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?qid=1382983270&sr=8-11&pi=AC_SX110_SY165

You can buy figures and they are bogo 1/3 price just now at toys r us.

The spaceships are generally quite expensive if you're wanting the likes of the millennium falcon but you can get ones like this:

m.toysrus.co.uk/home/search?search=X+wing&googleAnalyticsId=UA-809898-2

Imaginext also do Star Wars toys, very sturdy and great quality, but for some reason nigh on impossible to get hold of.

with working links I hope!

BeaWheesht · 28/10/2013 18:11

Oh and you must buy at Least 2 lightsabers ds has 7

shelley72 · 28/10/2013 18:13

Now Bea. Will the lightsaber we've bought for ds be used against his sister in an attempt to turn her to the dark side? Should we get her one tooGrin

DziezkoDisco · 28/10/2013 18:22

Don't get light sabres and then be surprised that they break things in your house and hurt upset all their mates by waving them in their faces. (Yes brother i'm looking at you)

ArbitraryUsername · 28/10/2013 18:28

Hasbro do Star Wars playskool sets that are great for younger children. They're very playable with and sturdy.

You'll find loads of them on eBay. Sme going for ludicrous prices, some for more sensible ones.

DS1 got a millennium falcon in 2005. The same toy seems to be going for c.£200 on eBay. Alas ours looks like it's been the favourite toy of two Star Wars obsessed boys.

DS2 has a big box of these toys, inherited from DS1 and he adores them. All his friends adore the toys too. They're always what they want to play with.

blibblibs · 28/10/2013 19:01

DS5 has been star wars mad for the last 18 months or so, so has lots of stuff.

Light sabres are a must - think he must have at least a dozen Smile

the figures link up thread are great and he got this as a birthday present to keep them all in.

He also has lots of lego but the starships you don't need to build aswell.

An R2-D2 money bank that makes noises when you put money in it went down well and a Darth vader torch.

You can also get Darth Vader Mr potato head - we got it from Debenhams last year.

The lego advent calender went down a storm last year too.

We have bed covers and lunch boxes on a more practical note but I think his most prised star wars thing are the books, so he can learn all about the characters.

These are very good and got them very cheaply on Amazon black friday last year, sure it was 2 brickmasters and 2 books for about £20 worth keeping an eye out for.

BeaWheesht · 28/10/2013 19:55

shelley absolutely get dd one! Before our dd could talk and was bottom shuffling across the floor so aged about 8 months she grabbed ds's lightsaber and made a squoosh squoosh noise whilst waving it menacingly ...

shelley72 · 28/10/2013 20:01

Oh. Dd2 will be 6 months at Christmas so maybe we should get her one too! Think they'll all have to fight DH & DB for them on Christmas day though Smile

Tiggles · 28/10/2013 20:06

DS3 is 5, he got the star wars pods for Christmas last year, and the figures still get played with lots, but not in the pods as they are a bit fiddly for him unless I am there to help him. (His older brothers use them in the pods).

Littleredsquirrel · 28/10/2013 20:10

Star wars Galactic heroes. Quite hard to get hold of in the shops although toysrus often have sets, but masses of them on ebay. Mine both love them even now and there are hundreds of characters and about ten different ships/vehicles.

They're a bit like the playskool heroes but have shorter legs.

Littleredsquirrel · 28/10/2013 20:13

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STAR-WARS-GALACTIC-HEROES-MILLENIUM-FALCON-X-WING-FIGHTER-AND-FIGURES-/221304369940

This is the galactic heroes stuff

ArbitraryUsername · 28/10/2013 21:58

Actually we have the galactic heroes stuff. It looks virtually identical to the play skool stuff. I thought the play skool stuff was simply the rebranded and manufactured more cheaply version of it. Get the millennium falcon if you can. It is everyone's favourite in our experience!

darksparrow · 28/10/2013 22:04

The Ultimate FX lightsabers are fantastic - get two! They seem to run off nothing - you hardly ever have to replace the AA batteries. They light up from the bottom and make a whooshing sound like the real thing. My DSs got them for their birthdays one year and they have been played with so much. If you shop about you should be able to get one for £30.

The big lego sets are too expensive and wasted on a 5 year old.

Bettyhen · 28/10/2013 22:23

The playskool Star Wars stuff is good, lots of small sets and bigger ones, we got all ours when on sale in early learning centre

ShoeWhore · 29/10/2013 16:44

6yo ds is obsessed with the Star Wars fighter pods. He has loads inc

I wouldn't discount the Lego sets though. They are great and will last a long time. Luke's Landspeeder (I think it's called that) is a good one for younger children - there's not too much to fall off Grin

ShoeWhore · 29/10/2013 16:45

That should have said he had loads inc a bigger set that includes an AT-AT.

Jojay · 29/10/2013 16:52

Marking place as I have 2 Star Wars nuts in this house with birthdays coming up

Jojay · 29/10/2013 17:00

Anyone know of a decent supplier of the Playskool or Galactic Heroes stuff?

kiwidreamer · 29/10/2013 18:14

Jojay I've hunted high and low all over the internet today and cant find anything... I've asked on the Bargain thread and someone said they think they saw some in store at Toys R Us and ELC used to stock them a year or two back. Argos have the Millennium Falcon set for £30 which is very good but only comes with two figures.

There seem to be lots on Ebay but I'm not sure what prices they are going to go for as I've just started watching.

If you find any out there please report back to this thread!!

kiwidreamer · 29/10/2013 18:17

DS is getting a set of the Playskool Marvel Heroes for Xmas, I thought they were a bit young looking for him (5yrs) but were practically free from Boots 75% off and 342 so will bulk out his stocking but I think they will have good play value... thinking I'll get the same range of Star Wars so the characters are all the same size / shape

Really tempted by the Millennium Falcon now...

kiwidreamer · 29/10/2013 19:51

A very kind poster PM'd me to say Debenhams have the Millennium Falcon for £30 at the moment and with a 10% off code I found online it came to £27.36 delivered to store... RESULT!

I think I'll shift a couple of his presents to his birthday as I did worry they were a bit fiddly for him now and he'll get loads of fun from the Star Wars stuff.

Funny enough he hasn't even seen the proper Star Wars just Clone Wars and Lego movies lol
