Tesco online have quite alot reduced

fuzzpig · 27/10/2013 11:46

What kind of things are you looking for?

I did a basket for my DCs when they were 4 and 2 and it went down really well, 2 years on it's still one of their most played with items (although some things have sadly been outgrown). It took ages but I absolutely loved finding stuff for it.

I did put a couple of 'proper' outfits in there (main one being a Snow White dress as DD had totally fallen in love with the one at nursery/school) but mostly it's the less specific items that have seen the most use - bags/hats/costume jewellery from clearance sales (or could use charity shops), stuff on eBay like a cheap fluorescent tutu, a small hi-viz jacket, animal ear headbands, a black cloak etc.

Oh and for the box I just got a large Really Useful Box, not very exciting but strong and easily cleanable.

Oodisgonnagetya · 27/10/2013 12:11

Thinking hats will go down well , more in the realm of tutus and parts rather than lots of full outfits.

Fancy a trunk or large picnic basket type thing to keep then in.

Shoes are always a bit hit here - the glitzier the better (and that goes for 5 year old DS too)

You can buy the plastic ones very inexpensively in most cheap shops (I think I've even seen some in Poundland) but the ones mine like best are real shoes which I search the sale shelves for and buy one or even two sizes too big so they last. Places like BHS where you'd find cheap wedding/occasion wear are good for sequinned and metallic ballet style flats or, if you don't mind spending £££s, Monsoon do some lovely heels.

HolgerDanske · 27/10/2013 15:52

ebay is your friend :-)

DisneyAddict88 · 27/10/2013 19:06

old lady hats :) my 2 love them and only cost £1 each in charity shop!
novelty sunglasses/glasses are great - i bought giant heart ones in £1 shop and primark had some snowman ones - blue glitter snowflake eyes and carrot nose (£3 in womens section)
stick on moustaches - we got in £1 shop and had great fun!

hula skirt and lei - £1 shop or ebay
animal ears and tails - quite often find in £1 shops or cheap on ebay

H&M do lovely little tutu sets and ballet type dress up shoes

we store all the bits in one of those plastic tubes then outfits on a rail!

MadeOfStarDust · 27/10/2013 19:22

Mine loved those animal tails, ears and noses... and they come in very handy later for school dress up days......

BikeRunSki · 27/10/2013 19:24

What a brilliant idea !

Splatt34 · 27/10/2013 19:42

I am doing this for 3 year old DD. Been collecting all year at charity shops and car boots but still need some bits. great ideas here. got some plastic princess shoes in sainsburys half price sale last week.

Chottie · 28/10/2013 08:34

I had a couple of feather boas in my DCs dressing up box and they were really popular.

OldRoan · 28/10/2013 10:18

Dunelm Mill for basket/chest.

lucysmam · 28/10/2013 11:00

Have you tried pound shops for odd random bits and bobs?

Mine have a mixture of old stuff mine (bags/hats/beads), bits from charity shops and some bought stuff.

I've had to avoid the princess outfits etc though...dd1 doesn't fit in them Sad They have a couple of net curtains and cheapy shop tiaras for brides/princesses and usually stick tutu's on (also quid shop) Smile

OodaresingingoftheDoctorDonna · 28/10/2013 12:23

Not tried anywhere yet. Need a day out to go somewhere with £/cheap shops.

Patilla · 28/10/2013 12:39

Just a warning that we have a wicker lidded hamper for a dressing up box and you really need to line it as DS is always snagging things on the wicker sticks

HenriettaBrain · 28/10/2013 12:45

Fab ideas here- I love the idea of the novelty sunglasses!! I can't wait until DD is old enough to enjoy this!

Madamecastafiore · 28/10/2013 12:47

Ocado have some in their 3 for 2 you sale.

Elsiequadrille · 28/10/2013 13:23

We're doing this. We already have a dressing up chest but this is an additional one of things they don't already have or need to be replaced Our trunk (solid wicker hamper) was approx £70 from ebay.

I've made a list of the outfits and accessories we need/want first and have searched accordingly from there (ebay Amazon good starting points). We have a separate bag for shoes. They just use (their) old ballet shoes, of which we now have approx 20 pairs!

Ideas

Wooden swords/ shields
viking helmet
top hat
indian headdress
foam clown nose
medieval conical hat

play/dancing scarves and playsilks (search for Sarah's Silks) are especially good for creative dressing up.

MooseyMoo · 28/10/2013 14:48

Top just googled Sarah's silks and they look stunning. My DD will love these.

Myriad is the UK seller for Sarah's Silks

Splatt34 · 28/10/2013 16:31

I want a couple of wigs for ours. any ideas where can source cheap play ones?

pateran · 28/10/2013 17:28

Wait a few days all the supermarkets sell them after Halloween. My mum works at Sainsburys and she always gets my DS next years costume.

Splatt34 · 06/11/2013 21:08
