A doll for DS

DS will be 13mths at Christmas. I've noticed when we visit friends that he's drawn to dolls. I have no issue with the colour pink but would prefer a more neutral doll yet they all seem really girly.

He likes the ones with soft bodies and hard hands, feet and heads. Has anyone suggestions for where I can get a nice one?

DS2 has a cheapy one from Tesco that he loves. It is in a pink babygro and hat, but it's not especially frilly or otherwise girly. It says Mama / Dada / cries when you press its tummy. You can also buy alternative outfits, which are sometimes more neutral colours, if you really hate the pink!
I also recommend a stroller for the baby - both my boys loved haring round with theirs (with or without doll inside) at around that age.

We got ds2 a 'Baby Annabel's Brother' a few years ago which he quite liked.

It was dressed in blue and was basically the same as Baby Annabel, we called him Hannibal Grin

and a pink buggy as well, because they were only £2 at Asda.

Early Learning Centre?

Ikea do really nice dolls. I also like peppa dolls, which ate nothing to do with the pig, but are waldorf-style soft bodied dolls. I one for DS and DD at around that age in.versions that matched their colouring.

If mn had a like button I would click it for 'Hannibal'!

We got the ELC doll (blue) and buggy (blue) and car seat (pink) earlier this year to give 3yo DS some practice in advance of baby arriving. He called the doll Callum although was adamant it was 'pretend baby sister'. Picture of him cuddling "her" has been front and centre on some of the Let Toys Be Toys blog posts and picture mashups. Grin

Hannibal for a doll Hmm I remember from the Hannibal book he did like his sister.

Just got one in fenwick, small, cost 5 quid. Comes in barbie pink, hot pink and blue.

MrsMeeple · 25/10/2013 20:04

I bought DS1 one of these when DS2 was due.

I wanted the blue one but the pink was half the price. I have since bought it several more gender neutral outfits, though to be honest I am really disappointed in the range of boys clothing available for baby dolls! If anyone finds a range of cute boys clothes for 36cm dolls, please let me know!!

DS doesn't care that the original outfit is pink, and since it spends so little time with any clothes on at all... I guess I really shouldn't care. :D

Depending on your budget, Corol do some lovely ones with soft bodies and hard heads, hands and feet. They smell nice too.

And again

Thank you! I think the ELC one is the winner. I've already got him a buggy.

There are some sellers on Ebay who make dolls clothes, including ones for boy dolls, sewn or knitted.

Katnisscupcake · 30/10/2013 15:26

I would agree with your choice to go with an ELC one. My DD has the boy and the girl (not that you'd know as their clothes are swiftly removed within minutes of her getting a new doll...) and they really are lovely. The boy (who arrived first), she's had for two years now and still loves it!!
