Can we have a moving vehicles toys thread?

Just so many choices out there for go karts, scooters etc. I thought it would be good to have a thread to ask questions about them and share any experience of them.
4 ds in my house so have had a good few scooters over the years. But mostly cheapish ones. Think now that they are older a stunt one would be good. Does anyone know a good sturdy one?
Also flickers. Do these need lots of pavements on a slope to use? We would only have space around the house, no pavements just country roads. So might not get the use out of them?
If anyone is looking a go kart type thing I can recommend the green machine and also this rip rider is one of the most played with toys in our house. It varies in price though but worth every penny.

This shop is brilliant, they give really good advice, good prices and service, cheaper online than in the shop, unless you say you have looked on line.

grit scooter, are really tough, you can get back pegs for stunts,

and extra, grip tape to customise,

Next stage up, Madd, great stunt scooter, but unless you want to spend that much, the Grit will do.

Ring Andre (really is the most knowledgeable person going), ask about starter flexifoil, and the child it is for, it will open up a whole new world, amazing portable fun, really exciting to fly, brilliant for active children.

I was wondering if anyone could advise me for my older son, he is three and a half years old and tall. He is also autistic and has a functioning age of 21 months. He has suddenly taken an interest in the ride on toys he ignored when he was a toddler but of course he is now too tall for them.

He really wants to use his Scuttle Bug but has really grown too tall for it.

I wanted to get him something he could use but he is not at all confident physically and very reluctant to try new things. He has taken an interest in our neighbour's bike so I considered a balance bike. For him though taking and interest in something and actually trying it himself are very different things, he is very interested in buses but was hysterical when I tried to take him on one.

Is there anything like a ride on toy but for older/taller children? He would need to be able to put his feet on the floor to feel safe, I doubt he would be willing or able to use pedals.

I would really appreciate it if anyone has any suggestions.

go karts

You may have to leave it sitting around for a bit while he gets use to it.

You can get sit on scooters, they are fun,

and any bike is a push along if you take the pedals off , have one with and an old one you strip all the bits off.

NotintheMiddle · 21/10/2013 13:45

How tall is he? I could suggest a few balance bikes.

Yes, we have gone through many many scooters over the years (boys now 12 and 13) - strangely up until now, not stunt scooters - My boys like to go really fast so they like these:

www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=hudora%20250#/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_7?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=hudora+scooter&sprefix=hudora+%2Caps%2C210&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Ahudora+scooter

Not good for doing tricks though and whilst No2 son has had his for nearly 2 years and not had any issues, No2 son has had 2 with various problems and he now has "frankinscooter" which is one made up of all the working parts of the other two. He is however quite hash bash with his stuff and I suspect that he has been trying jumps etc on it. Both boys are tall (currently 5'9 and 5'7.5) and weigh over 9 stone.

They have now just got these:

www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=hudora%20250#/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_12?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=origin+dirt+scooter&sprefix=origin+dirt+%2Caps%2C210&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aorigin+dirt+scooter

Which are definitely strong enough for tricks etc but heavy - they are however fab for dirt tracks and forest trails :)

We struggled with go karts and the like becasue they are so tall, they only fit in the really huge expensive ones which we can neither afford or store.

Lilicat - how about a micro scooter with a seat? Like this: www.micro-scooters.co.uk/mobile/mini-micro-3in1-scooter-blue-with-seat-and-o-bar-handle-1.html

He could then, if able to use it as a scooter a bit later.

What is the best first scooter for a 3.5yo boy?

Lilicat1013 · 21/10/2013 17:39

Thank you for all the suggestions, I will get him measured when he is in a more co-operative frame of mind I will measure him as balance bike suggestions would be really helpful.

I will ask his nursery about the go kart as I know they have one but I am not sure if he has ever tried it. I will have to ask if he has shown any interest.

I love the idea of a scooter with a seat, I could see him liking that and feeling safe. It would also be great as I have a younger one who is one in January and as long as I can adjust the seat height they both could try it.

Thank you so much for all the help, it will be lovely to get him something he could play on as he is getting more confident with physical things at the moment and I want to encourage it as best I can.
