Which would a toddler get more out of?

Dd's Christmas pressies are mostly sorted thanks to a Happyland sale earlier in the year but I'm trying to decide on her "big pressie".

The options are:
Little plastic slide (to use indoors) £30 or
Little trampoline (to use indoors) £45 or
Neither!

She loves bouncing on my bed so I think she would like the extra bounce of a trampoline (and it would save my bed). I think she'd like a slide too though!

Which would a toddler get more out of in the long run? Or are both a bit of a novelty that might wear off pretty fast?

I'd get a slide. Lots more fun. Chances are he would still bounce on your bed anyway.

TooWetToWoo · 18/10/2013 19:26

I'd go for the trampoline out of those two.

If you're after more suggestions, what about a sit and spin toy or maybe a pop-up tent/play house.

notwoo · 18/10/2013 19:27

I've had both indoors and the slide got more use.

Pancakeflipper · 18/10/2013 19:27

I wouldn't get the slide. We have a good sized one for outdoors and that's still used by my children ( DS1 was 2 when we were given it) and we have had it for 6 yrs. I think a decent slide will provide years of fun ( In Summer they had it into the paddling pool for a water ride) I think a small one will take up alot of room and be boring after an hour.

Then again an indoor trampoline.... I dunno. Think the fun of it would last longer but not convinced.

Sorry ...

MamaBear17 · 18/10/2013 19:34

My neice had the trampling last year and used it once. Id go for the slide x

CatFromAcrossTheRoad · 18/10/2013 19:48

I wouldn't get either of those as they are very likely not be used a lot and take up a lot of space. What about a scooter/ balance bike ( clearly for outside use) or dolls house or garage for hours of indoor play?

GinotPrigio · 18/10/2013 19:57

I'd go with the slide too if you have the space. We got DD a small indoor trampoline last year but it was a bit rubbish and we ended up getting her a massive outdoor one for her birthday in March which she loves.

NoComet · 18/10/2013 20:08

Trampoline from the toy library came here time after time.

Mind you we now have a 14 ft one.

AndysMildAdventures · 18/10/2013 20:32

Hmm it seems slide is getting the most votes! But trampoline almost neck and neck! Thank you for the other suggestions too. We are pretty lucky this year because her grandparents have got her a second hand dollhouse and a play tent. I'm wondering now whether I might be best not getting her a big pressie and saving the money towards a proper slide or trampoline when she's a bit older?

I would get a fold up slide that can go outside once summers here. Or a pop up Wendy house?

attheendoftheday · 18/10/2013 23:44

For me it would depend on their age. We have a slide which dd1 enjoyed both sliding on and rolling stuff down, but by just after her second birthday she had graduated to a proper slide and the little one is not exciting enough. Dd1 loves jumping on the bed, but I think a toddler trampoline would be too tame so she's getting a proper big one from dm for christmas.

If your dd is close to 1 then I think a slide would be worth it, but if they're older I would probably steer clear.

attheendoftheday · 18/10/2013 23:47

I meant to add, both dd1's scooter and balance bike get a lot of use here (she is 2.5). From 18 months to 2.2 she adored her toddlebike above all else.

magnumicelolly · 19/10/2013 00:01

Maybe a big cardboard box instead!

AndysMildAdventures · 19/10/2013 00:40

She would be 21 months by Christmas so sounds like maybe it wouldn't get much use before she wants a big one! Ooh I hadn't thought about toddler bikes! I bet she would love something like that. We have a big carpark outside that's always empty on weekdays so she would have lots of chances to use it.

magnum, I think she'd love that too haha! I've made her a cardboard toy kitchen and I think if the boxes were bigger she'd be hiding inside it Grin

i would get her a micro scooter. they are £45-50 but she will get years of use from it and she is just the right age.

dont bother with the seat attachment at her age.

honestly they are fab, my two yr old loves hers.

5madthings · 19/10/2013 00:47

a mini micro scooter.

they say from.age three but all.the kids i know use them.from 18mths ish.

or agree with above poster that a balance bike is a good buy :)

neddle · 19/10/2013 09:30

My almost 2yo has had a Toddlebike for the best part of this year and really loves it. It's lightweight and he can manoeuvre it easily. Used it inside and out and it doesn't take up too much room. It's robust too as my older 3 (11, 8 & 5) like riding on it too.

blossombath · 19/10/2013 09:56

I vote fpr saving the money and getting a big slide later, maybe for her birthday so she can enjoy it in spring (I know, probably still be winter in March but we can hope). She'll get years of fun from that.

My ds is same age and we're not getting him anything big as he is already getting a toy kitchen and play farm from DGP. I'd like to get him a balance bike but will probably wait til his birthday and just get small things for Christmas.

Partyly I am being stingy thrifty but partly I dont want him to start expecting piles of presents evey year.
