It's my first Christmas with my teeny tiny baby girl and I want to make it sooo magical. More for me than her haha Wink

Things like leaving carrots for Rudolph, snowy footprints etc.

Share all your little secrets please!

Love these threads!!! We've always bought each years Swarovski Xmas ornament every year since my dc were bor, with the intention of giving them to dc when they have their own family. We make a big trip if shopping for them, visit to Santa with lunch out etc.
make bags of reindeer food to sprinkle outdoors on Xmas eve (bird seed). Bake and decorate star cookies. Lights, lights and more lights for dd to marvel at!! Xmas eve hamper containing new sleep suit, socks, book, and yummy foods (for you)?! Make own cards using dad's handprints as antlers.

Look on Pinterest!!! Loads of ideas!

For my DS first christmas (he was 8 weeks old) he brought his daddy a special bottle of whiskey, with a little letter about how it is not to be opened until DS's 18th birthday where they can share it together. You could do something similar.

A big box of balloons or a helium balloon is cheap & fun for them to look at and play with on the day.

And everything everyone else has suggested.

Have a tradition for a Christmas Eve movie. We always watch the box of delights on Christmas Eve.

Have a special Christmas Eve tea (same food every year).

Have a children's Christmas shopping trip just for them - visit Santa, take part in the Christmas activity (ice skating, or whatever it is at the mall), let the children buy a new decoration, and with the children buy a new Christmas decoration.

Visit a traditional Christmas market.

Have an afternoon where your children make Christmas gifts to give out. The oldies love it, and the children enjoy it too. This year my children are making bookmarks (they'll decorate, I'll laminate!)

Have a traditional tree decoration afternoon, Family together, get out the music, the Christmas scented candle, the mulled wine or winter pimms, and then do the tree, the paper chains and all the other decorations. Makes a lovely afternoon.

My DDs love the Christmas wrapping afternoon. Again, music, candles, lights on the tree, mulled wine / winter pimms and sit down with the pile of presents, and nice things to decorate them with - bows, ribbons etc. They help, and we make the presents look beautiful until I get too drunk to care anymore.

Most importantly, we try to get the essential stuff done (Christmas shopping etc) done before December, so we are able to do something nice with the children every weekend in December, and it's not taken up with the stress of getting things ready

taken from MN, that I'm doing this year: tealights 'runway' for rudolph in the garden. Bag of cheap tealights from pound land, and currently cleaning out and saving all the jam/marmalade etc jars. Kids can see it from the upstairs bedroom window for full effect!! Thanks MN poster who gave this idea last year I think.

We make reindeer food - oats and glitter.

MamaBear17 · 18/10/2013 19:58

Make sure you take lots of pictures of your little one in novelty elf or rudolph babygros. Not only are they wonderfully cute, it is lovely to look back at them. My dd is only two but she likes to look at my photos on my laptop and just today we were looking at her first Christmas (she was 5 months) and she was giggling at herself in a rudolph babygro which was lovely. Kids make Christmas so brilliant!

Dress your DD in a super cute Christmas outfit as mentioned by Mammabear and take a pic - then print up some Christmas cards or Thank you cards (for any pressies she will receive).

I kept the leftover cards in my decoration box with each years "visit to Santa" pics. It's just lovely opening them again each year to put the decs up - brings back lovely memories to sit and look at past years pics.

Make saltdough decorations for the tree in festive shapes and press all the family fingerprints into one with the date, or use hand or footprint? This costs next to nothing. You can paint them too.
