Instruments?

Ds is 4.4 and loves the musical corner at school. At home he only has a drum and recorder.

I was looking at maybe an instrument set for christmas, they have some on amazon. I was looking at the John crane one or Melissa and doug but the reviews seem to be mostly by people with small children (1 or 2 years old) which makes me worry the sets would be babyish.

Does anyone have any recommendations for sets? Or for xylophones?

Have you got any tourist attractions near you that might sell fair trade stuff? We have a nearby llama park :o and in the shop they have lots of handmade wooden stuff like rainmakers.

With xylophones - can't recommend any specifically but I was once given one that wasn't actually in any semblance of tune Hmm so might be an idea to check!

How about a tuned xylophone this one is nice and colourful too. Our DCs loved to be able to play actual tunes on it, rather than just making a racket.

I'm getting ds a plastic toy saxophone as he wants to play it but is also 4 so a wee bit small for a roper one!

Get her a Ukulele! They're not expensive but have a lot of play value even if kid can't play properly yet.

What about a casio keyboard - they are inexpensive and can do all sorts of rhythms and things. We've got one similar to this and it is great - kids love it. Although I do get a bit sick of the recorded tunes!

I agree with the ukelele. MIL bought one for £19 (a good quality one) for my youngest, and it was perfect.
